General Car Chat / Re: My new car has arrived.
« on: 27 August 2016, 00:45:07 »
Nice wheels mate, and the V8 is the way to go.  I've certainly enjoyed my V8 XJ, and no issues to date (altho like you I still have some Jag warranty left!).  Servicing costs at my local dealer very reasonable too.

Enjoy yours and ignore any "nit picking" comments - as someone said when I posted details of mine "its only jealousy".
Good luck with it :y

Cold stitching,Metal stitching or metalocking - all the same process to repair cracks in cast iron, particularly old engine blocks or heads.

There's a fantastic steak restaurant next to the Mercure Hotel in Alencon, which is about 35 miles before Le Mans on the A28.  :y

They cook the steaks over a massive log fire in a big old inglenook fireplace along with various pots of sauce!  8)

Highly recommended!  :y

That takes me back - used to use that place regularly years ago - as you say good steaks cooked as you like it, and friendly owners.  Remember owners wife playing with my daughter as we ate, and chatted to the owner.

Disks and pads in your first link are for 2 lit, not 2.5 V6 ;)

You can come over and do my Jag, its filthy at the moment, last time it was washed was when Jaguar serviced it a few months back.

Just someone using an old out-of-date database, shouldn't worry.

Nothing to do with identity theft ;)

Omega General Help / Re: steering wheel puller
« on: 24 July 2016, 00:37:44 »
Never had to use a puller, also used Nicks way on numerous cars over the years.  As said never fully remove centre nut until wheel is off the splines  ;)

General Car Chat / Re: caliper paint
« on: 24 July 2016, 00:35:35 »
Painted the calipers on various cars with black Hammerite (well the smooth glossy version), still look OK years later when you wipe the brake dust off.

I want to replicate(ish) the OE grey/silver paint  :y

You can get smooth Hammerite in silver, grey and numerous other colours Andy  ;)

He does say in his t&c's that it is assumed that you are a motor dealer and the contract of sale will include this. Don't really know where that leaves you.
I did see that. I presume it means no warranty is given or implied.

Would have thought so as thats exactly what he says   ::)

Omega General Help / Re: End of the line
« on: 18 July 2016, 15:35:58 »
There are also quite a good number of genuine Omega parts that are now not available from VX, and, although aftermarket parts are available for some, the age old question of quality comes into it. If a car that is out of production has a good enough following, then companies may take the plunge and make difficult to get or unobtainable parts. But if there isn't the following for them, and the cars are being broken up for parts, or owners are not repairing them, then that is the start of the slippery downhill slope that will only get worse. Unfortunately, some Omegas are worth more in parts that as a whole car which doesn't help the situation.
Comparing them to the Triumphs I own, there will be very good Omegas out there still - it is still possible to find good original Triumphs if you are prepared to put the time and effort in, and to pay the appropriate price for the right car......it's just finding them, but if you do find one, then I would make every effort to preserve it as best as you can.
Just my thoughts that's all.....
After all, what is there out there that in anyway compares with what the Omega offers without spending good amount of money?

Have to say its easier now to get parts for my TR4A, than it was back in the early 80s when I rebuilt it :y

Might be worth a look before a bid ;)

Although may be better for you to fit a new hg and/or replacement head to a 80K engine than to swap out/replace with a 144K engine/car.

Just to clarify, the brake fluid level switch when low fluid throws up a warning light on the dash and has nothing to do with the low pad message in the message centre which is triggered by the brake pad wear sensor, or a fault in its wiring. ;)  HTH

Omega General Help / Re: Update - pattern cam cover gaskets
« on: 16 July 2016, 01:45:38 »
No apologies for digging this old post up, just felt it should continue to be updated.

Now done approx 30K since both cam cover gaskets renewed - both sides still oil tight, no sign of any leakage.  As said I never torqued the bolts, just tightened "sensibly" by feel (experience) from middle out in stages - these have all been recently checked for tightness and are all still ok.  Plug wells dry and oil free.

The AGP ones that cost £5 were fitted to drivers side bank, and genuine GM ones (that cost an arm and leg) to the passenger side bank.
