They tend to let air in rather than diesel out, classic symptoms though !!

I did a quick and temporary repair on the handle with a small piece of 1.5mm thick stainless to bridge the broken parts, 3 M4 tapped holes and stainless screws(for looks because I had some) and a generous smear of cheap 2k epoxy under the plate and in the join. It's surprisingly rigid, and would probably do me for sometime, although I bet Deb can break it ::)

When it arrives, the new handle will require disassembly of the door. Depending on how awkward that is I may, or may not, fit the passenger one.

If the replacement is from China it may pay to "repair" the new one before fitting ::)

I rather like the 16V Golf GTI from the late eighties.

Not many around now, I imagine.
The 8v was arguably a better car...

Agreed, never driven a good 16v yet,8v was great :y

Unfortunately Stemo that won't get it through an MoT. :P Master cylinder[on mine]has two pipes from it to the abs unit with the abs itself a 4 channel version. If it is the abs unit at fault are they generally reliable enough to look for a second hand one?

Second hand is the only way to go really, new will be costly even if still available

Is the Omega master twin outlet or four,it its two then each outlet pumps to 2 wheels so I doubt master is at fault

It's a tandem cylinder so only 2 separate circuits. I can't remember if it has 2 or 4 outlets, but in the latter case each pair is fed from a single cylinder so most unlikely it's the master cylinder in my view.

My money is on the modulator :y

having put a new caliper, brake pipe and flexi hose on the n/s/r a couple of weeks ago and failed miserably to get anything of a "pedal" I bought a pressure bleeder.Been to lock up today to try it and there is absolutely no fluid getting to the rear caliper! Not had chance to check further but suspect air in abs block[does that sound feasible?] if it is air in abs block is there any way to get it out without a TechII? as I don't have one of those and don''t know of anyone local who has. Any other ideas are more than welcome.

More likely to be a fault with the the abs modulator itself, seen this a couple of times where no fluid will pass from one outlet, not seen it on GM but have on peugeot and Bmw with Bosch units

A character like James Hunt wouldn't get near a F1 car today , "sex pest , drunk " a modern F1 teams worst PR nightmare , those were the days  :y

Tbh, he was lucky to get near one in the first place. I know a driver who raced against him (and always beat him), who said the media nickname of "Hunt the shunt" although accurate, was just slightly different to the nickname most of the drivers had for him.
He was lucky that Lord Hesketh enjoyed all the partying, and not taking anything too seriously, like Hunt, but presumably also saw some level of talent in him, that laid beneath the surface.

1976 was the year of Hunt and Sheene.

Both were chamions.

Both were heavy smokers and drinkers

Both liked parties and pussies. :D ;D

And both died yoing :'(
