Omega General Help / Re: R25/R28 gearbox ratios
« on: 14 July 2021, 09:48:27 »
Thanks for the input Nick, but obtaining ratio info off a forum is far easier than changing out a final drive ;)

Better to do the planning upfront and determine a good ratio before the conversion, than to retrofit parts only to have to swap them out later..

Correct.. I'm considering the gearbox for a manta A build, but i need to know if the ratios are going to suite the final drive that I have for the car..

The exact code for the gearbox is:
90 523 122
0822680

Can anyone assist with ratio info?

My 5 speed manual omega has the code R25/R28 on the gearbox, i can find the ratios for R25 and for R28, but not sure what it means when both codes are on the box..

Does anyone know what ratios this gearbox has?

Thanks for the clarification.. what was the ratios on the R28 gearbox?

Good day all,

The early manual omega's had a 6-speed getrag box - I think it was designated the R26..

Does anyone know the exact gear ratio's and possibly the final drive ratio on those cars?
I can't seem to find the info anywhere.

Thanks in advance

General Car Chat / Re: Complete custom EGR blankoff kit

thanks for the response..

I suppose everyone who blanks off their EGR's just fabricate their own blankoff plates

General Car Chat / Complete custom EGR blankoff kit
« on: 08 March 2020, 17:37:59 »
So as some of you know I'm bringing a x30xe back to life, and one of the first things I did was blank off the EGR system.

I decided to have fun with it, and had some templates lasercut to my custom design.. a nice and thick aluminum blankoff plate, with a stainless faceplate showing off some custom emblem, obviously sealed off at the intake with a flexoid gasket. Exhaust side just a blankoff bolt with copper washer.

Here's how it came out:

so 2 questions:

1. If I were to offer this as a complete kit, which includes:
- stainless faceplate
- ally blankoff plate
- Flexoid gasket
- Blankoff bolt
- copper washer

.. what would be a reasonable price for such a kit?

2. What emblem would be most popular with potential buyers, not limited to what I've already done (can draw up any design)

I look forward to the response.

I removed both the EGR and SAI on my X30 when I fitted the later 3.2 exhaust manifolds which don't use it.

I turned a small stepped bung to fit the EGR valve, and secured it with the nut cut off the now redundant connecting pipe; this was less work than making a blanking plate between the valve and the inlet plenum. You can completely remove the valve if you replace it with a cheater circuit so the ECU thinks it's still there, I intended to do this, but never got around to it.

Similarly, deleting the SAI requires the actuating solenoid(on the radiator, near the battery) to remain connected electrically only; everything else can go in the bin, which removes a lot of clutter at the front of the engine. This requires blanking the exhaust manifolds which is slightly more work than just plugging the tubes, but it is well worth doing. There's a large air filter box in front of the NSF wheel which you can also remove.

If you're keeping the original manifolds, there's no point in buggering about with the EGR. The SAI is slightly more worthwhile as it makes servicing the front of the engine much easier, and both the pump and oneway valve do fail occasionally.

There are no noticable performance gains of any sort from removing either system.

Thanks for the feedback..

The purpose of the exercise is to clear up the cluttered engine bay, make the engine more accessible in general. I do intend on having custom headers made for the engine at a later stage, so this all leads up to an easier install once that come to fruition.

For now my number 1 priority is to replace the timing belt and associated parts, and if I can win some space by gutting out non-essential items in the process, I'm already ahead.

I will simply reconnect the EGR and SAI on the harness, and cable-tie them as far out of the way as possible.

Regards

As per your basically the same post elsewhere...

So you're saying these components need to stay plugged in? I read somewhere that the pump can be unplugged without causing problems.

I'd really like to physically remove as much as possible.

Number 1, that's about the limit of your option.

I'm going to strip it though, at least get rid of the lumpy piece of cast iron.

It's in the way and it needs to go.

First prize is to remove it completely and blank off right at the exhaust flange, but access is proving a problem, so new plan is to keep the 2x pipes in place, blank them off where they tie into the center portion, and rip out the rest..

1. From there, the center portion goes from its silver canister to a single plastic vaccuum assisted valve. Can I chuck this out completely, or does it need to stay plugged in to keep the management happy?
2. I haven't traced the pipe beyond the valve yet, but I believe there's a pump somewhere in the system too.. Once again, can I bin the whole thing or does something need to stay plugged in?

Thanks in advance

Omega General Help / EGR deletion on x30xe

Hi gents,

I'm removing the EGR, making a blankoff plate on the intake and screwing in a blankoff plug on the exhaust manifold.

1. Do I need to retain the EGR valve? Do I just cable-tie it somewhere in the engine bay plugged in, or is there a more elegant solution?
2. Does anyone know offhand the thread of the hole in the exhaust manifold?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: ECU swap out
« on: 07 February 2020, 15:04:58 »
Any idea how the immobilizer was bypassed?

by doing some electronic stuff.

You have bigger problems than worrying about the immobiliser; the butchered wiring is probably the cause of all your problems.

My fear is that the butchered wiring let the smoke out, but lets see ons the connectors are swapped

Could someone please do me a huge favour and unplug their Cam Position Sensor, and check which wire goes to which pin?

We already know CPS is:
grey/red on pin 1, grey/black on pin 2 and what i assume is brown on pin 3

I need to know which pin is pin 1 on the CPS side connector relative to the 3-slot features inside the connector, I dont just want to assume.
