Now, I've got the disappointing bit over here we go:
I'd thought I’d update this thread as I progress with the restoration of x2 Omega's. Returning them to former police specification as they were when in service with Thames Valley Police.
OV03 LJL (GM03 HYU) – Omega 3.2 V6 Manual saloon, black. Unmarked pro-active unit
OV03 LHY – Omega 3.2 V6 Manual estate, white. Marked – Traffic vehicle.
Firstly, a little about the cars;
OV03 LJL - Omega 3.2 V6 Special manual, Z20R black sapphire, LSD, 125,000 miles.
For those of you familiar with Road Wars, as seen on Sky 1 and Pick TV this vehicle used to feature on there.
It was registered on ghost plates, bearing the mark GM03 HYU and was designated TV-37. It was primarily used by 'Rosie' and 'Daz' (Nope, our pink darlin' hasn't been moonlighting)
With the exception of a few vehicles, most Thames Valley Police vehicles are registered at the Oxford DVLA LO, meaning the registrations will start with OU, OV or OY.
This had been picked up by the criminal fraternity...so some unmarked vehicles wore ‘ghost’ plates. In the case of my Omega, it wore GM03 HYU, and when it came to retire the vehicle it reverted back to its original OV03 LJL.
I purchased it directly from TVP at the end of 2010 when it was disposed of. I think I paid around about £900 for it. It had been bought with the intention of selling.
Mid 2012 I was contacted by the owner who had bought it from me, he was looking for another manual Omega. I sold him my 2003 2.6 Elite manual, and took LJL back as P/X. When he'd purchased the vehicle from me, we had transplanted a fair few things from his old 1999 3.0 Elite to it, 17'' wheels, shale leather interior, boot lid with spoiler, wood dash trim etc.
So, I now had to go about removing all the added Elite bits fitted.
I sourced a good set of 16'' CD spec alloys as fitted to V6 Special's from Sam Burton, then bought a complete Omega for the cloth spec interior. Kai purchased that complete Omega now fitted with the shale leather from LJL. Boot lid has all been sorted with great thanks to Zirk.
So, it was then on to the police equipment and the fitment.
This is where it starts to get expensive;
I have the following,
Whelen 500 LED blue, with clear lenses x4. X2 for the front bumper in the fend off position, and x2 for internal fitting on the rear headrests.
Whelen 500 strobe blue, with blue lenses for grille fitment and strobe power unit.
Whelen Alpha siren unit and speaker
Rear flip matrix LED sign to display the Police Stop / Follow Me etc.
Tracker unit for the passenger sun visor
Cleartone CM9000 radio head unit
Alternating headlight and rear fog light flash
Rear internal boot mounted blue lamps for when the boot is open
Flip out in dash monitor with forward facing video camera and ANPR interface
TSS Autovison speed measuring controller
Switch panel
Nokia phone kit
Tomtom sat nav and extra mounts on N/S of windscreen
Mag-Lite 3D Cell torches with mounts and traffic wand attachment
Cleartone telephone style microphone and cradle
‘Think Road Safety’ VED holder as per in service vehicles -
Next service due sticker – Thanks to MrMoffat
It's also soon off to Daz for the cambelt and water pump and general magic as he normally performs.
Thankfully,
OV03 LHY is on loan currently, so I’ve only got one to contend with. That will have the correct RVG supplied livery fitted along with the whelen edge lightbar and all other equipment including TVP crest, wording etc.
So, hopefully I’ll start to upload photo’s soon!
