Omega General Help / All 6 cylinders missfiring
« on: 31 May 2010, 19:18:17 »
It's quite impressive I think to manage to get all 6 missfiring  ;D
Some will recognise the car and its issues.
James, Jamie and Tunnie have all seen the vehicle, Daz had a look today as well...many thanks to all.
Previously it had only been missfiring on 1-3-5 bank, plugs and coil pack changed...but didn't sort the missfire. Both James and Jamie have used diagnostic tools and checked all the usual stuff.
I don't use the car at all, but today Daz had a look at it, and it's the pedal trick reveals that now it's logged a fault code for the 2-4-6 banks, all codes are below;
0300
0302
0304
0306
0301
0303
0305
So this indicates missfire on every cylinder, the 2-4-6 bank has never been looked at, plugs are unkown and so is coil pack. What could cause a missifre on both banks? I think that must be the route cause of the vehicle's issue.
Symptoms for those who don't know the vehicle, lumpy tickover, then plenum vibrates and shakes even from cold, but once warm gets worse.
Could the common 3.2 pre cat issue explain any of this?
If it's worth it, I'll take a video clip of the vehicle tomorrow when it's stone dead cold so people can see what's what.

Omega General Help / Header tank flush additive?
« on: 04 May 2010, 14:32:22 »
I'm just doing a coolant flush and change on a Y32SE.
The header tank is full or crud, in its past it had an oil cooler failiure...which was rectified.
What, if anything can I use to clean out the header tank?
The sides of the tank are covered with crud, using a screw driver to scrape it off works, but I can only get to a small part of it.

Omega General Help / Wiring to 1-3-5 coil pack, missfire issue.
« on: 13 April 2010, 22:29:24 »
Wasn't really sure if it'd be better to post in this section or electrical...apologies if it's felt to be in the wrong section.
Vehicle; 3.2 manual (OY02 VTL)
Issue;
When started from cold and on enrichment it's fine, but off enrichement there's a missfire on the 1-3-5 bank.
James has looked at it, previously and tonight.
Not coil pack, not plugs...known good lambda sensor fitted tonight and no change.
So that really only leaves wiring from ECU to the 1-3-5 bank. Does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram of this? James thinks if the wiring is checked and replaced this would most likely cure the issue. As James' excellent process of elimination only really leaves wiring left. Is there any area prone to issues? Through breakdown from heat etc?

Omega General Help / Oil Pressure- Urgent HELP!
« on: 08 April 2010, 19:37:01 »
I sold the MV6 yesterday, it's a 2002 '52' Y26SE (2.6)
We went out on a test drive, all was fine.
He drove it home to Farnborough from Oxford, all fine.
But this morning the oil pressure light came on, he said that there was lots of smoke out the back and it sounded a bit tappety.
I actually feel physically sick at knowing this. It was sold as seen. But I can't just leave it, that's not right at all.
So I really need some urgent help.
Are any of the mobile mechanics or local knowledgable members able to go and look at the car, and find out what's up with it?
The vehicle is in Farnborough. Ideally I need it looked at asap, I'll pay whatever for your time, fuel getting there, expertise etc.
I just feel so bad, there was a minor oil seepage from the oil pressure sensor, took it to my local garage who I always use, it was sorted. But I never had any issues with it, it drove perfectly and the oil pressure light had never been on before.
It drove fine when he test drove it, but obviously something has happened.
I'm fearing the worse like blown crank case or something really bad.
The bloke's being reasonable, but I need to get something sorted. I don't want to take the car back, but if it can't be fixed then clearly I'll have to.
Any help appreciated.

Omega General Help / Y32SE missfire/judder/knackered stat?
« on: 10 March 2010, 20:40:49 »
Just bought OY02 VTL from Simon at trade price, with the issues known...so I'm most definitely not grumbling about the issues at all, just trying to work out what to do with it now.
OY02 VTL is an Omega 3.2 manual, I intend to use it as my run about so would appreciate any advice.
When it's first started from cold, there is no missfire or judder, however once up to operating temp the idle is all over the place bouncing around a bit and the emissions light illuminates.
And when driving back from Poole to Oxford the temp guage was reading about 75, when in traffic it would approach 90ish.
Pedal trick provides codes 0300, 0301 and 0305...so that tells me missfire on cyl 1 and 5. Which I'm pleased about, was half expecting it to be either 2-4 or 6, on the side I can't bloody well get to.
So I think I can remove the 1-3-5 coil pack and take a look.
However, this vehicle also failed it's MOT on emissions, the lambda was too high...could this be due to the missfire on the 1-3-5 bank, or would a new lambda sensor be in order?
Daz, if you read this...I'm really sorry, haven't had time to ring you, I'll do that tomorrow  :y
Could a dead stat be affecting anything other than runnig temperature, I'll take 1-3-5 out and see what I can see tomorrow, but any other advice?

Omega General Help / LSD identification
« on: 05 February 2010, 16:24:16 »
The 2001 'Y' 3.2 V6 auto red ex police has this sticker on the diff, it reads;
GF 085 0 A 32
8 S 10:39 26 10
I saw Tunnie today, and from driving the vehicle he thought it may be possible it had a LSD, does the sticker confirm this?
Many thanks.

Omega General Help / 2.6 engine cut out
« on: 11 October 2009, 15:09:32 »
Hello All,
I really am not sure what has happened. I've got a 2.6 Elite saloon auto that I'm selling, and today a guy came down to view it and take it for a drive. He was driving it and all of a sudden the battery light flashed on, there was a clicking noise and the revs dropped to nothing and the engine cut out. There is charge in the battery, all lights, windows, radio etc work. But you get notihng from the dash. If you turn the key to position 2 no dash lights illuminate and when you try to start the engine it turns over...I think. The aux belt turns and you can hear it trying to start. No matter what, I couldn't get it going, so had it towed home.
I can't try the pedal trick as no dash lights illuminate at all. Could the clicking noise have been a fuse of relay? I looked at the fuses under the dash and couldn't see anything obvious. But I couldn't find a fuse that I thought would casue this anyway.
Any help very greatly received  :y

Omega General Help / Exhaust tailpipe trims
« on: 03 August 2009, 15:33:06 »
Hello All,
I've got a twin tailpipe exhaust backbox on my facelift Omega saloon from eternalcar. And as some know, the tailpipes are just a bit too short.
This question is posed to Kevin Wood really as I seem to remember him mentioning tailpipe trims. I'm looking to make it look as original as possible like the original backbox on a 3.2. Does anyone know of some tailpipe trims that look original and would fit the eternal backbox? I've looked on ebay for some time, but can't find any that look original and would fit. Can anyone help?

Hello all,
I have a 2002 CDX saloon with a light grey velour interior. I want to upgrade to leather, and preferably an elite interior with the fully electric front seats. Has anyone ever done this, is it possible? I'd also add the auto dim mirror, and was also wondering would the memory function work or would I need too much extra wiring and stuff? Biggest problem is actually finding a facelift leather interior in light grey...haven't seen one in all the time I've been looking.

Omega General Help / Z22XE 2.2 cambelt due soon-Who can do it?
« on: 23 June 2009, 20:18:51 »
Hello all,
My cambelt is due for replacement soon, in about a month. I've had a look on the trade club website and cambelt kit is £86 I think from memory. I assume this kit does include rollers and tensioners etc?
Forgive my ignorance but could someone explain what the different bits are i.e tensioners etc?
Also I believe the advice is to replace the water pump at the same time...is that right?
And I know there are members on here who do cambelts. What do you charge for doing it? Much rather someone on here did it, as I'd know it was done properly :)

Omega General Help / Clattery sound from Z22XE (2.2)
« on: 11 May 2009, 18:24:07 »
Hello all,
I've notcied that from the right hand side of the engine block to the exhaust manifold there is a clattery sort of sound, not that loud but enough that it concerns me. It's there when the engine is both cold and at operating temperature. I know without hearing it for yourself it may be difficult to diagnose, but any ideas? Engine is Omega 2.2 z22xe 2002 model manual, and only covered 34,000 miles.
And also a bit cheeky I know, but if anyone is near would they mind having a look? More than happy to pay for your time and petrol etc. I'm located in Kidlington, 4 miles from Oxford city centre. Or happy to travel to you instead.

Omega General Help / Backbox 3.2...Vauxhall Dealer help
« on: 01 May 2009, 17:28:50 »
Hello All,
Hope we are all well. I've just returned from a 2 week holiday to cornwall. Before I went I purchased an exhaust from the cat back for my Omega from my local Vaux dealer for a total of £251 with TC.
It was fitted by a local mechanic I trust.
The problem is the backbox in my opinion looks awful. My car is a 2.2 petrol so the original tailpipe was only a single one. But I opted for the 3.2 backbox as I think twin tailpipe looks better. I went to Vaux hoping I'd get good quality parts.
The new system is much louder and I am certainly not happy with it. But what I want help is with the backbox. I've included pics of it. It doesn't look right to me. The tailpipes are straight and don't look right. Looks like a pattern part. Looks like a boyracer exhaust to me and that's not the look I wanted. Does anyone know where I can get a proper 3.2 backbox? As in the one's fitted originally to the 3.2's. I haven't included a picture of what I want, but can do if needed.

Hello All,
My 2002 CDX's climate control isn't working. It doesn't provide cold air, just air the same temp as outside. The fans are working, air is coming through the vents at the correct speeds.
Just wondering if anyone can tell me what to check, condenser, pipes in certain places? I'm a little hesitant to take it somewhere, pay £50 for them to tell me it doesn't work which I allready know.
Any ideas appreciated.

Hello All,
I was just wondering if their was anyone who was local to oxford who has a trade club card? I need to get an exhaust for my 2002 Omega, and want genuine OEM parts so was wondering if anyone could help me out by using their trade card? I'm more than happy to compensate for their time etc and travel costs. Need the exhaust for the 14th of this month. I'm located in kidlington 4 miles from oxford city centre and have a vauxhall dealership 1 mile from where I live.
Many thanks.

Omega General Help / Would a 3.2 backbox fit a 2.2?
« on: 03 April 2009, 19:49:03 »
As title suggests, need a new exhaust from cat back. So thought might as well get the twin tailpipe as on the 3.2 for my 2.2 petrol saloon. Buying from Vaux so not a pattern copy. Just wondering if it'd fit?
