Omega General Help / ABS ECU for 3.0
« on: 20 January 2015, 21:30:08 »
Hello All!

This is a novice question, buuuut, I'll ask it anyway!

I need to obtain an ABS ECU for a 2000 'W' 3.0 Auto for a forum member. I know they can be reprogrammed, but other than this are they all the same?

John can supply me one from a 2.6 or 3.2, can these be reprogrammed for a 3.0, or do I need non DBW one's?

General Car Chat / Re: GM 2.8 litre V6 turbo.

I've driven a few Vectra C's with the engine. Not a bad drive, but if you're going to pay £275 for 6 months / £500 12 months tax and get through soooo much fuel, there are other vehicles I'd choose to do that in!

What would you suggest, Mr Joshwyatt?

....and do you have one in stock?

Being serious, which is difficult  ::)
To make suggestions, there are a few questions I'd ask;
Budget?
Usage? What are specific requirements?
Annual mileage?
I would always suggest a L322 Range Rover or Volvo S80 gen 2 (2007+) as great choices.

I would expect my marked traffic estate to be worth £3,000 at the most. But as mine has the proper Thames Valley Police livery, it'd be difficult for me to sell it without removing the crest etc.

Here's both of them joining other TVP vehicles;

Not any more, within TVP RPU none have Xenon's. So no V70's, Shogun's, Insignia's. I think one of the XC70 does. In your force, they don't either. It used to be a good way to spot them at night!

I've driven a few S70's, they're good cars. But for £800 you can get a decent Volvo S60, oldest will be on the 'X' plate. 2.0T with 180bhp would be a good choice. I had one of the last 'old' shape S60's on a '58' plate. It covered 25k in my stewardship, averaging 30mpg and only ever needing service items.

Indeed so! The cheapest roadworthy L322's are around £3.5k. The BMW V8 engined one's are good, but don't like neglect. The BMW TD6 is a bulletproof engine, but with 179bhp isn't very rapid. The gearboxes on the diesel's are different to the V8's, and last 100k miles, or 60k with a chip.
The newer 2007 model year TDV8's are the one's to go for. £10-£11k will buy a '56' or '07' with circa 115,000 miles. It seems there are quite a few who might consider a L322. Over the next few days I'll do a quick write up about the differences and things to look for.

The 4.4 BMW V8 engined L322's don't need flashlube, it's the later Jag AJ-V8's that do. They're either the 4.2 Supercharged or 4.4 N/A. The Jag engined 4.4 V8 L322's are the most reliable.

MOT's been out for 1 month and 5 days, so not too long. The bolster and arm rest wear would tell me it's high mileage. Front kidney grill is missing, but could be a cheap, reliable car.
I've always preferred the E39 5 series at this age though.

I would 'guess' it's probably Oyster, sadly I don't know the code. But if it's not silver, it could only be Moonland Grey or Oyster at that age.

Use some Rain-X, and the problem will be solved!
There are some euro spec police cars, Omega's and Volvo S60's that have had a rear wiper conversion. They do look peculiar  ;D

There's only one Omega on BCA, a 2.0 GLS facelift saloon  ;D
Last 3.2 on their was a month ago or so, black saloon with 80k miles.

General Car Chat / Re: Pointers for buying a used Corsa please
« on: 27 October 2014, 18:02:07 »
I rarely see any Corsa C petrol that doesn't have some kind of timing chain rattle...maybe I just see the clapped out one's  ;D
I would rather buy an Astra G or H 1.6, cheaper to buy and not that much more expensive to run.
