Will be  fitting a new turbo on the French contraption in the next few days, so purchased new oil and filter from Eurocraprats.
As usual put the reg. number in and got a list of suitable oils.
The top two were 0w-30 spec. then below that 5w-30 and 5w- 40.
For reasons I now cant remember I chose the one at the top, which happened to be 0w - 30.
https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/castrol-edge-c3-engine-oil-0w-30-4ltr-521770991

Now Im sat at work bored,so have done a lot of checking online and everything I look at says the recommended spec is 5w - 30.
Will it make any significant difference ?  I assume its a bit thinner, and a bit concerned it wont be good enough for my new turbo.
Dont want to blow the bloody thing up again after spending yet more time and money on it.

What will this cost?

Is it financially viable on a 20 year old Frenchie?

Hayne says = Multigrade oil SAE 5W-40 to 0w-40 (ACEA A3 / B4).
Im not a lot wiser tbh.  ;D

Doesnt seem to quite match with what Ive got.

https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/castrol-edge-c3-engine-oil-0w-30-4ltr-521770991

But does it matter ? Maybe the oil I have is a later tyoe of oil which will be better to use, or maybe its too far out of spec.
Havent a clue tbh.  ::)
Apparently it complies with Renault RN0700 / RN0710.  :-\

It'll be fine. Especially as you don't have a DPF. :y

Dont have a glovebox handbook. Could have a look in the Haynes book of bollix I suppose.
Luckily, no DPF.
Lable under the bonnet? Renault traditionally insist on ELF lubricants.

Not a PDF online somewhere? Or a Clit Forum?

For example, the BBP glovebox manual states mine is:
Jaguar Landrover spec: STJLR.03.5005
Ford spec:WSS-M2C934-B

So I always ensure it meets either of those 2.  Then I need not worry about viscosity (as the spec says its 5w30), ash content (spec states C1), or API etc.

As mentioned earlier, EuroShite offer, based on my reg, a completely unsuitable oil https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/triple-qx-fully-syn-engine-oil-5w-30-ford-m2c-913d-5ltr-521776071

Should be fine, if a little thin.  If you had a DPF, I'd be urging more caution.  The ACEA categories are in simplistic terms, A=petrol, B=diesel, C=Ash. There are others.

You ideally need to match A/B/C categories, as this categories cover all oil properties.

This may help.
https://www.opieoils.co.uk/t-acea-car-engine-oils-specification-explained.aspx

As has been said previously in another topic, whilst different oils may appear to be the same viscosity, its also the API and the subsequent letters that matter to ensure the oil is actually correct for your particular engine.

I have looked on that site and am now a bit baffled.  I have used 10/40 semi synthetic, Vx 095599582, in all my Omegas, but that site does not mention that oil for my car.  Why? :o :o

Both of our cars have the recommendation of what oil to use embossed on the oil filler cap , simple idea but saves a lot of head scratching.

Lizzie,
The link details the following which is the same ACEA rating as the recommended VX 10/40 semi synthetic oil.

ACEA A3/B4
Stable, stay-in-grade oil intended for use in high performance petrol and direct injection diesel engines, but also suitable for applications described under A3/B3

The API ( American Petroleum Institute) ratings are outlined here - the VX 10/40 semi synthetic oil is CF/ SL

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/t-api-car-engine-oil-specifications-explained.aspx

Hope that helps understand the oil ratings.
