This may be a silly question (im rubbish with electrics!) but the idea of using a long piece of wire to test it - will speaker wire do? That's the only long enough wire i have.  1 each from -ve and +ve terminals on battery? Going to where exactly - where the two wires enter the plastic unit that holds the bulb?

Cheers.  8-)

They seemed fine. I can't think what else it could be. Unless the wiring internal to the car has gone wrong. I don't even know if it's worth asking where it's routed as i'm guessing it's pretty inaccessible?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Numberplate illumination
« on: 16 October 2007, 11:26:04 »
Hello,

I have a problem! Car will not pass MOT due to rear numberplate illumination not working. (How stupid!)

Bulb changed (original looked ok) Fuse changed (original looked fine)

Still nothing.  :(

Any suggestions?

Cheers.  :)

Omega General Help / Re: EGR clean or replace
« on: 10 October 2007, 18:52:59 »
OK, cheers guys. I think i'm going to try cleaning it out now as per the instructions in that thread. Hopefully that will sort it. I don't think I know what i'd be doing with blanking plates (unless anyone's got any pics or exact instructions?) so will leave that for now.

What symptoms are you getting with the car before you rush off and change the EGR?

Occasional hesitancy to rev cleanly below ~2500rpm, above seems ok. Intermittantly accompanied by EML? ( the car with the spanner) coming on.

As I say Vx say it is the EGR. Is there a chance I shouldn't trust what they say?

Also, is there any guide on here on how to blank off the EGR as that seems to be the recommended thing to do?  I've tried searching, but it only seems to come up with the most recent 15 results? ( Sorry, newb who hasn't used this type of forum before!!   :-?  )

Omega General Help / EGR clean or replace
« on: 09 October 2007, 13:32:50 »
I've read quite a bit on here about cleaning the EGR, so am tempted to give it a go. My question though is, if Vx have run the diagnostic and told me I needed a replacement EGR (which they quoted £330 for  :o ) then is cleaning it going to do anything?

I'm guessing it's still worth a try as Vx would rather charge £330 than clean and put back on? Or does the fault reader give a definitive "you must REPLACE the EGR" ??

Cheers.

Haven't really got it in me to do it myself - VX want £380 to do it  :o
So may have to go trade and find someone else to fit it. It seems talking to someone at an exhaust place that the main pattern suppliers don't make them for Omegas after 1999 which I find odd?

Better than the £510 Vx asked me for!

Kwik fit will do it for £260. Tempted.  :-?

Ok thanks. I thought they would have replaced the coolant with the camblet and waterpump just having been done?   :-/

Without doubt replaced, but they may have left a wee airlock in the system which has only now burped its way out, hence the drop in water level.

You happy that there are no leaks?

Not sure about leaks really. Nothing evident when the car is parked up. The thing is the Low level warning was on before the cambelt etc was done, so would have though replacing the coolant to the correct level would have soretd this.

With regards to the EGR, is it located in the exhuast system like a lambda? Would it therefore be worth getting this done at the same time as the exhaust?

Omega General Help / EGR and exhaust
« on: 04 October 2007, 23:24:08 »
Hi there. I've got a few questions arising form stuff I've found out needs to be done.

Firstly I need new centre and rear exhaust parts. Vauxhall quoted me £510 fitted so i ran a mile. Any idea how much this should cost realistically and where is best?

Secondly I have the engine management light coming on intermittantly, which is aparently the EGR valve needing replaced. Again Vx stupid money. Easy to do? Cheaper to buy from where?

Thirdly, I have had the cambelt and waterpump replaced, yet the display still shows "low coolant level". How is this possible? Does it need reset? Should it not take a continuous reading?

Sorry for all the questions! I'm still a newbie to the Omega!

Thanks in anticipation of your help and answers   8-)

Vauxhall site isn't working. Attempting to register as a user, whatever I put in as a user name it says it's already taken. Even random collections of leters and numbers.

Annoyed. >:(

Guess I could pay for one of ebay   :(
