It looked the same size.....and it fitted ok.  

If it came from a VX dealer it'd be unlikely to have a different thread IMO. They hopefully standardise on one size.

Make sure it's got the correct thread on it. Otherwise, it may fall off and unless you shut it down very quickly it's going to cause damage. It'll cause a mess whatever happens. If it screwed in OK and tightened up it SHOULD be OK.

Other than that the differences are whether it has a bypass valve (doesn't really come into it if you change it before it clogs up!) and the size and shape of the filter. If it physically fits and the thread is the same (sometimes stamped into the inside surface next to the threaded hole) I'd say it'll be fine.

I was following a mate of mine in the Westie this weekend. He has a motorhome, which is what you drive when all your cars have become too silly to drive on the road and you have to ferry them from one race meet to another.

Anyway, started to go round a bend on the sliproad between the M42 and M40 and a shedload of water poured out of the bottom of his motor home and hit me straight in the face.

First words to him when we pulled up?

"Please tell me that bit of pipe is NOT the overflow from your chemical loo!"

It wasn't, thankfully.

In my opinion their speed limiters should be updated to talk to each other so that as they come close to each other it adjusts out any differences in the limited speed. Then there'd be no need to overtake except when one is unable to maintain the limited speed up an incline, in which case the speed difference will be greater anyway.

Problem is, for every courteous lorry driver there are half a dozen (usually foreign) ones who really don't give a damn when driving on our roads.

My biggest hate is people following too close. The normal following distance seems to be about 1 1/2 car lengths these days. Yes, there might be some self-righteous guy up in front who drives at 45 mph in a 60 limit but leaving insufficient space between vehicles won't get you there any quicker.

If people follow me too close I immediately double the distance between me and the car in front because I've now got to consider the idiot behind before I stop.

Following too close also makes it extremely hazardous to overtake because there is nowhere to go if you have to pull back in. It's a vicious circle that leads to increased frustration.

Second on the list is probably poor lane discipline on Motorways.

Third is lorries who "snail race" on dual carriageways. I don't care if one lorry is doing 0.01 MPH more than the other. It's hardly going to make a big difference to his journey time if he has to back off occasionally. If there is a queue of cars behind them who can comfortably cruise 10-20 MPH or more faster then it's inconsiderate to hold them up.

It was also pointed out, just after I'd picked up the keys to a Blue Omega, that I've never had a car that's not blue

Nitrogen is also dry, so you don't end up with water vapour in the tyre. Water vapour can cause much greater pressure increases with temperature than nitrogen alone. In a racing environment where tyre pressures must be accurately controlled at extreme temperatures nitrogen is a must.

My local tyre fitters will fill tyres with nitrogen if you ask them to. I've never bothered because there's no way I'd notice the difference.

I got robbed for £1.05 per ltr at the weekend. BP Ultimate IIRC. If I'd have noticed the price beforehand it'd have been 95 RON. Luckily it was a quick 20 quid splash and dash in the Westfield not a full Omega tank

Also, why do they sell BP Ultimate Diesel? surely if you want the "ultimate" (whatever that is) performance wise you wouldn't have bought a diesel in the first place?

More to the point, why is the pump insignia almost identical to the BP ultimate petrol? Very nearly ended up picking up the wrong one!

Well, it was good to see ClarCE at the show and appologies to theolodian. I was having a "bio break" when you stopped by the stand and my mobile phone had been dumped in a corner under bits of Westfield.

Speaking of which, we fired it up at 14:00 hrs yesterday after one false start (plumbed in fuel injection flow and return the wrong way round).
