Years ago it used to be normal practice when coming up  behind someone you wanted to get past, to give a quick non aggressive flash of the headlights, and more often than not they would move out of the way to let you past.
Do that these days, and someone might just force you off the road and stab you. 

Ive always loved the idea of the fun that could be had from a sleeper car.
Probably my ultimate one would have been the poverty spec prefacelift Omega, with Lotus Carlton running gear built by Omegatoy.
10 or more years ago I was told it had sat neglected on a driveway in Cambridge for several years, which set off dreams of buying it.
I heard not long after that the owner had sold the running gear when he got an offer he couldnt refuse.

I was reformed, as I sat behind the GLA all the way. Totally reformed. A new me.

Hence I always suggest people with GM ones refurb them, rather than replace with crap.  Its a bit extra work, but cheaper and will last longer.

That's why I am building my 51 Austin Countryman with all the Omega running gear, looks stock but far from it.

Ok, that's the later car, so treat the engine as a 3.2 Omega... ie DBW with two coil packs And the MAF will be the same Bosch unit, although you should rule out vacuum leaks.

Re the ABS, that's possible, but not sure if all code readers are able to read the ABS or gearbox ECUs. The fact the the TC light isn't on suggests a different problem, iirc both lights come on when the speedometer fails if it's the ECU that's failed.

ABS and TC Lights comes together.
Maybe you have some ideas about RPM issue?

I wouldn't dither too long, be prepared to use the verge for avoidance, and avoid pulling straight back into lane 2 to soon. And being reformed, only plant your right foot whilst actually passing.

An action may not be dangerous if you have approached it in a reasonable and considered manner and taken active steps to minimise any risks as you undertake* said action.

 I'd still love to have a decent run again in an SD1 Vitesse but again I'm sure it wouldn't feel the same as the first time I drove one!

I owned a Moonraker Blue Rover SD1 3.5 Vitesse TP for around 5 years. It was a big (for that era) comfortable car, but boy did it like a drink. It sounded sweet, especially after I’d removed the centre boxes from the zorst.    Rust got to it in the end, mainly the door bottoms due to poor drainage and the rear arches. In later years a couple of colleagues completely rebuilt their Vitesse’s with new parts from Rimmer Brothers, but back then I had a young family and was finding 16mpg on a good day a drain on my wallet, very often much lower the way I drove it. As far as I can recall the V8 and transmission never let me down. 

Does passing on the left if there's a clear lane between you count as undertaking, or could it be argued that it's safer than being sat up someones arse getting all pissed off about it?

A43 so only two lanes.    Personally, as I’m properly reformed now, I would have moved back into lane 1 and slowed down very slightly, taken a chill pill and put on some soothing music. 

The old me would have waited for the gap in lane 1 and then very innocently crept up the inside for the undertake, keeping a constant lookout for any danger from the car I’m undertaking. Ah, driving is so much more relaxed now I’m reformed.
