For anyone interested, the 10/40 oil I have collected from my Vx dealer has a plain white label with both the Vauxhall and Opel symbols printed on it, with specification, which cost after discount £13.68 ex-VAT.

It's had white labels on it for at least the last three years at the dealers I use

What has surprised me, although it shouldn't given inflation and GM disappearing, is the price of the spark plugs.  In 2018 I paid, after discount, £6.30 ex-VAT each.  Now after discount, £8.60 ex-VAT each.  So instead of a total of £37.80, now £63.60 ex-VAT.  It all certainly adds up!! ::) ::)

 ;)

If you shop around you can get genuine GM for about £3.00 each (I bought 18 LOL), last set I bought from the dealer were about £4.00 each so clearly your dealer isn't giving you any discounts.

Thanks for your observations and tip VXL :y :y

The last time I bought the oil it was 20ltrs for the price of 15 was back in 2017 when the GM labels were being used :D :D ;)

As for the spark plugs, they are the ones from the Vx I have used and trusted for years, who still give me the discounts on the official list price that they are using.  However, thanks and it is too late now, but next time I will go to someone like  AutoVaux who I note do the genuine ones I use for £6.70 inc VAT, so on a set that is a decent saving. 8) 8)

With the loss of some Omega parts availability from Vx now I am shopping around, but I will be doing it more now!  I have always tried to fit only genuine GM / Vx parts, but my options are now fast declining :'( :'(

You're limited by your imagination. :-X

As Andy suggested, your discount is based on inflated retail prices.

I don't recall paying much over £60 for plugs, oil/air/pollen filters and oil on the Omega. The Vectrums were always sub £50 (2 fewer plugs and less oil per car) and always GM parts.

The 4 for 3 offer was pretty much a constant price for 20 litres, the variation being one tub of 20 litres or four tubs of 5 litres @ around £3 per litre.

Here you go, buy three sets of these for a total of £22.50 and your good for two plug changes (supposedly 80K then)

Everything is available from euro carparts, only problem is it won't have a GM stamp on, so your car will self destruct if you fit it, or it will do the same job as it did before...

Reread my post, admit your wrong and apologise.

That was for six plugs, an oil filter, an air filter, a charcoal pollen filter and the oil. All over the counter with no account. I had bought four cars from them, which may have helped but I certainly didn't need to ask for a discount.

Yes, ok sorry I misread your sentence on that, but that is because of your first opening comment which is so typical and just turns me off >:(

My only observation on some of ECP's parts is to avoid the cheap oil filters for the cartridge type setup, when you click the Bosch, Hengst or GM (Hengst) ones into the housing lid they are a loose fit and spin freely, this is important because if they don't spin when you tighten up the lid onto the housing the filter ends up twisting in the housing, you'll only see how deformed it's become when you next remove it.

Carbon impregnated pollen filters (required on facelifts) are more expensive so worth stocking up on them if you ever see them on offer.

Defo worth shopping around.  ECP prices can be variable, and frequently aren't that competitive...  ...but are convenient.  Other local factors are also convenient ;)

Be wary of Autovaux, they have a reputation of claiming some of their pattern parts are genuine.

Egay can be in the land of the gods, so make sure you know what you're getting.

And dealers have been supplying oil in plain white containers for years.  Also, next time you buy some, ask about prices for a 20l tub, as tends to work out much, much cheaper than 4 x 5l, even when GM had the 4 for 3 offer.  Less convenient, mind.

Thanks TB :y :y

Constructive comments, and you outline why I have usually stuck to parts from my Vx dealer, who I have known, got the best discounts in the past from, for 14 years.  I am very concerned that by saving a few quid by going to motor factor sites I could get a dodgy product that could damage my car or simply give me more work when it goes wrong.

I can see though it getting much harder to buy genuine parts for our Omega's, an example being the crank sensor recently bought from Autodoc.  So far, despite many horror warnings from some, the Bosch part has been fine! :D ;)

You could have bought a genuine GM one for similar money/effort.

The latest one is a different part number to the one acquired, which suggests a revision of the part.

You can buy genuine parts but you need to be prepared to work to locate them. I gave you all the information you needed for the crank sensor and you threw it back in my face. So if my comments seem acidic, consider why.

I know that DG, but I have not got the time or can be bothered to hunt around to save a few quid every time I go to service my Omega.  That is why I deal with my trusted Vx dealer who I know will sort out any problems I may have with parts they supply, and sometimes fit (like the a/c compressor unit that went wrong after just over two years and their general manager, who I know well now, agreeing to refund almost £1,000).  For me it is about time and trust.

It is a personal thing to decide what to buy and where from, but I DO welcome advise from you DG and all others here on the OOF.  That is why I stay as a member.  Sometimes though you do react strangely with me, and others, when they seem not to want to follow your advise.  I am sorry that you are offended by this, but I am my own woman and away from any man telling me what to do. That's just how it is.

BUT, let us BOTH stop having a pop at each other now and act like mature adults.  In so many posts I have made in General Chat, and even when I escape to here in the true motoring sections, you appear to have a dig on what I have said, nick picking on everywhere word, every phrase, or me just being me!  But, there is no need for that, or indeed for some of my responses! :-[

I am not perfect, nor are you, or anyone else in the whole World.  We have all got our flaws, faults, as well as strengths within the knowledge we have, although having the ability to wind others up!  As I have said many times, in many posts, there are times when we should all live and let live.  So let us BOTH bury the hatchet and in a Christmas spirit of peace just get on. :-* :-* :-* :-* :y :y
