Did some dismantling of Pierre again, and may have found why the new camseal didnt seal.

Radial scores around the nose of the cam, just where the seal sits. Dont know how its happened, but would imagine it wont do the seal any good.
I have a new genuine Renault seal here, but might need to get a new cam before I think about using it ? :(

Hard to tell without trying it and then putting it all back together and see what happens.
Trying to avoid that as this is the fourth time Ive had it apart and am seriously sick of it now.
Thinking of trying an SKF Speedi Sleeve if I can find one of suitable dimensions.

If you can feel the damage with a finger nail, then it requires machining/replacing depending on the clearances ;)

Yep I can feel it with my fingernail. Decided to give the Speedi sleeve a go. They look very impressive.

What's that? Like a condom for a camshaft?

Just had a look, seems like the easy option and, if it didn't work, I'll bet you can strip it back down in under ten minutes now. ;D

These look like an excellent bit of kit, but whats to stop leakage between the inner face of the sleeve and the original shaft?  :o

A very tight interference fit. They are designed to be used on damaged shafts without the need for major repairs / machining / then having to use different sized seals etc.
Available up to  very large sizes for industrial use. Very simple looking, but quite clever engineering by the look of them.

Got a load more bits painted. Also cut out the steering box panel that I tacked in yesterday because I wasn't happy with it... A lot more use of the Birmingham spanner has got the new panel sitting much better ..
