Is it radial play or end play or both?

Speaking of Renaults - I fitted the new turbo to mine today and reassembled everything.
Started it up and all good on that side of things. Running quite nicely - apart from oil pissing out high up on the cambelt end of the engine.
I suspect the cam seal has let go. Same thing happened a year ago when the original turbo died, and I replaced it with a second hand one.
If the turbo isnt spinning I assume the oil getting pumped to it doesnt drain very quickly and results in excessive oil pressure which causes the oil to find the weakest link so it can escape.
Its a complete PITFA.  >:( :'(

Oil pressure doesn't go anywhere near the camshaft seals and will be regulated by the relief valve in any case. Excessive crankcase pressure might do it, however.

Ive just dismantled the PCV again. Its a plastic housing with a spring and diaphragm inside. Very simple.
Spring is springy, diaphragm is in one piece and its reasonably clean from last time I had it apart and cleaned it.
The cam seal also leaked when the original turbo packed up.
So is a dead turbo the reason for camseal blowing or do I have it backwards - or missing the point completely ?  :-\

No the turbo won’t affect the cam seal as Kevin said, but of course excessive crankcase pressure will stop the oil from draining back into the sump from the turbo and also cause aeration, thereby stopping the turbo from being properly lubricated and cooled. Seems like a breathing problem but if the PCV is clean and working properly and all pipes are fitted correctly then it’s a bit of a mystery as to why it’s leaking again? Is there a lot of pressure when you take the oil cap off whilst the engines running?

When you changed the turbo did you check and clean the turbo supply and oil return pipe work? (they are known to get full of crap and some actually even incldue a gauze filter in the banjo bolt).

As for leaking cam seal, I would also be saying PCV, you do need to check it end to end though and not just the valve

Checked supply / return pipes when I fitted the used turbo last march. Didnt check this time though. Maybe I need to do that. No filter in the banjo bolt on this one.
PCV is connected to the rocker cover by a short rubber pipe.
I actually changed the rocker cover a couple of weeks ago due to the old one being cracked. Checked nothing was blocked and gave it a clean inside before fitting it.
The knackered turbo had so much play that it couldnt spin. I did wonder if that would have a similar effect to a blocked oil return pipe ?
I.E. oil getting pumped up to the turbo but not getting back down to the sump anywhere near as quickly as it would if the shaft was spinning, and if so what effect that would have.  :-\

Mm well the actual spinning of the turbo does not help nor hider the oil flow at all, if it’s draining out slowly then it must be blocked internally, the lubrication/oilways in turbos are very small and don’t take much debris to block them
