My Omega rarely sees a motorway and averages around 24mpg. Hence using the little C1 for most journeys.
Even the Boxster easily achieves 28mpg with its manual box.

And yet my manual 525 barely managed 25mpg on long runs, when the automatic Omega averaged 24mpg in daily use just like yours. The keys to good fuel economy are light weight, high torque at sensible rpms(that's half of where the BMW failure) and tall gearing(the other half).

Wasn't that an E34 touring though :-\

In which case a Carlton estate would have been a more accurate comparison...

The E39 525 auto I had for a better was significantly better than the auto Omegas I had because it was a five speed.
