Just got back from Kwik-Fit! and a few more things
« on: 15 September 2007, 12:42:44 »

Got up this morning, still baffled about that "loose pipe" on my car
cant get to the HBV or whatever it is, still cant find it! and YES i must be dumb i guess  :(
gonna have to pay one of you a visit to help me with my remaining "problems"

anyway, i done the RESET procedure on the Air-Con by pressing AUTO and OFF, after it was done i noticed my Air-Con was cooler, or was i must imagining it? what does the reset fix or change?
took my S Reg 1998 Omega CDX 2.5 V6 up to Kwik-Fleece in Oxford, left it with them for 90 minutes
came back and the guy said "no charge" hooray!!
they said my car started off at its coldest at 8.5 degrees, they got it down to 7.5 and thats it
is that normal and as cold as it will go? it does seem to be colder, but not as cold as my grandfathers V Reg Honda Accord
maybe each make and model of car is different as to how low it goes in Temperature?
i also go them to do the "anti-bacterial" thing for £19.95

when he gave me the keys back i said goodbye and drove off
so i got the whole car re-gassed and whatever AND he forgot to charge me £19.95 for the "anti bac"

RESULT!!

i also just fitted me NEW K&N Air Filter and me NEW Pollen Filter
http://www.puravent.co.uk/filters/display_static_page.pl?static=puraventfilterdesign.htm
which on its own cost me £23.70 because i got a decent one
for the Air filter fitting, do you pop it in and then push it down into the box, or sort of just let it sit on top and then clamp the lid back down again?

also, anyone on here from Oxford that can do a "coolant" flush and "re-fill" for me?
i wouldnt have a clue how to do it and would worry about messing it up coz i am as Stupid as they come, ha ha ha
i will buy that stuff your all on about, whats it called again?
my present coolant looks Blueish, everyone on here seems to say RED is better yes?

thoughts guys?

Right, it needs changing 'now'

Are you capable of undoing a screw? Do you have a reasonable supply of water (eg hose)?  If answer is yes to both of those, you can do it ;)

It will need flushing through a few times, as it will be in a hell of a state.

If you really don't think you can do it, you are welcome to bring up, and I will show you exactly what you need to do to flush it (as said, you will need to do a few times over the period of 2 or 3 days).

Its old, dirty, yucky coolant.  It is not possible to completely empty the v6 cooling system (easily), and each flush gets about 1/2 of it out.  So you keep doing it over and over again (using the car a bit between flushes to help mix it up) to repeatedly dilute the crap thats in there.  When its virtually neat water in there, then add neat antifreeze to give the correct 50% mix.

Does that make sense?

I will happily show you what to do (for free), but you will need to do some yourself over the next few days for the reasons above.

Wayne you've misread my post aircon was already running at 3 degrees so they said they would not be able to improve that figure so they did nothing I must be lucky and have an efficient system. When I took it in I had just completed a twelve mile journey so the system was very cold. They said an average figure for aircon is about 5 or 6 degrees. My Meegas a 2,000 W 2.5 Elite :y
