If you mean someone with a T 2 then no, there is VX masterfit near me but pretty much gave up with them years ago (how much should they charge to plug there box in)?

Actually I do know someone with a Opel Reader (would that work) but the last time spoke to him he couldn't get it to work on hes new Laptop.

Not sure if I wanna be spending lots of money on this (ex's Car) Tax was out last Friday, and MOT's up in March, starting to think maybe get a Mot done first and go from there, would still be nice to fix the fault though!.

I know this is my first post (I'm looking for an lpg 2.5v6 to replace my passat tdi, and happened accross this thread so thought I'd register to help):

I can almost guarantee it's the MAF sensor based on the symptoms you describe.

They can usually be had on ebay for 20-100 depending on the application. If it doesn't solve it, I'll eat the replacement part.

Modified to add:

there is indeed on on ebay:

Valid point, but get codes read before splashing out on one.  Or checking it actually has one (early TDs (U25DT) didn't have a MAF, only later X25DT)

A failed MAF won't usually throw up a code for some reason (even though there is an error code for maf sensor).

To check you've got one- follow the 'airbox' hose back to the inlet manifold and it'll be along there somewhere.

have knife and fork, will travel, but hopefully won't be required.

no probs for registering, I know how saddening it can be to have a problem that just doesn't seem to get fixed!

Yup, on the X25DT, it right by airbox, unmissable :y

The 2.5TD very, very rarely puts on the EML with faults, in true BMW style (gives a false impression that car is more reliable).  Unplugging the MAF certainly doesn't bring on EML (forgot to plug it in on mine once  :-[)

More common is the inlet trunking becoming detached from the turbo.....
