Radiator replacement purchase
« on: 27 July 2012, 23:21:35 »

Hi all, hope everyone is enjoying the olympics opening ceremony!

More importantly, did an oil change on my mig today and notice coolant was leaking from the top plastic bit of the rad. A nice hairline crack at the very top. So a replacement is needed.  What is the best option?

Dealer - not managed to get a price but expecting it to be cheap

Local motor factors have quoted £160 on exchange

eBay has them starting at £74 new with 2 year waranty http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320755085439?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_2017wt_922
And continuing up to £150 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350482228794?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_2972wt_980

A breaker selling a good secondhand original one?

Not planning on getting rid of the car for the next year at least, but not wanting to spend too much.

Did think it was the HBV which was leaking (as I was loosing coolant slowly, but no leaks, no white smoke and no mayonnaise in oil cap) but no realise it could have been this. Would it be prudent to change the HBV whilst the coolant is all drained?

Many thanks in advance

Excellent thanks for that. Interestingly if you compare the pics, that seems to be the exact same drawing used for the rad on eBay at £74! Mmm, have I just saved myself £30 or...have they just copied the photo!

Well I took the plung and bought the £74 one off eBay, arrived the next day, very well packaged. I have visually checked the item with my original one and everything looks the same. The only difference is that it has what must be oil cooler connections on the offside which I have no need for, assume it is not a mod I can make?

Will try and post a pic and will report on how it fitted in when I get round to it. Fingers crossed but with 2 years waranty I am hoping it will be okay!

Thanks for the help though!
