Omega General Help / Re: Oh Bugger - The END?
« on: 22 August 2006, 21:23:15 »
sorry about the bad news, but just a wild thought (never having had to play with one of these V6's) - is there any way that having the inlet and exhaust cams for that bank swapped over could cause this (zero compression) fault ?  Could the timing allow that - any other sort of problem and I would have thought that you  would get at least some presuure on the test one one or more cylinders.  I am sure that somebody will know the answer.

Thanks for the warning.  Just checked mine (early '02 2.2) and yep, they were rusting at the joint - looks like galvanic corrosion, so a possible design/QC issue.  Have cleaned the rust off and primed for the moment.  WIll do it properly next week after the silver wedding celebrations :y

Craig,
Yep - I don't know your mate, but I probably know somebody that does!

If it is the DIS pack, I am sure that I have a 2.0l somewhere, and I can probably find somebody going up to Cottesmore way next w/e from Northwood - if not, then there are other ways to get it there.  A submariner is allowed to help a WAFU after all.............. ;)

As TB says
"Check the vac pipes in the engine bay - info in FAQ section - as a first point of call...."

Yep - I had this on my 2.0 - one of the vac pipes had got near a 'hot' bit that had melted a hole in it - result, no control over vent flaps.  Cured by bridging with a bit of flexi rubber (from an old Saab - always worth hanging on to bits that might come in useful ;))

It probably does expand as it gets hotter (it is the same as ATF and on the older autoboxes where you could check the level, you had to do it hot ;)), but I do not know the specifice for the 'meega power steering.

Hi!

Left stalk buttins are probably cruise, the 'snowflake' symbol by the shift is for starting off in 3rd (in snow or ice!).  You will get plenty of help here :)

Omega General Help / Re: Its My Head Gasket :(

I can confirm that a HG replacement on a 2.0l is a fairly easy DIY job - I did mine on my previous motor over the christmas hols 2 yrs ago, and it was still fine when I traded it in in Aug this year!  Gasket set  from the dealers was not too bad, and you get to do the timing belt as well. ;)

Fingers crossed for you.... :y

Unfortunately I no longer have my Haynes for the 2.0 (went with the car), but my Haynes for my Corsa (as a comparison) does show the wire colours and ECU pins for the corresponding connections on that motor- I don't know how easy it is to get at the connector at the ECU end (but must be feasible), so a simple check with your multimeter should hopefully give a clue!  The check is easy, in my experience, unravelling the wiring diagram and identifying the right cores is the tricky bit ;)

This must be very frustrating for you.  From my understanding of the wasted spark system on the 2.0, the connector on the DIS has four pins which (I think) are: ground; +12v; signal from ECU for plugs 1&4; ECU signal for plugs 2&3.  However, I don't know which is which!.  You have found the +12v, and can easily find the ground pin, now it is a matter of unravelling the wiring diagram to sort out the other two and check for continuity back to ECU (or, indeed, for a short to ground on one of them).  Good Luck ;)

Omega General Help / Re: Hand Brake Problem
« on: 21 November 2006, 20:00:17 »
You can get at the cable adjuster without removing the heatshields - a long extension between your ratchet handle and the socket does work.  Haynes recommend getting both rear wheels off the ground at the same time (which is better from a purist point of view), but I have successfully done them one at a time.  Slacken the cable off, get your screwdriver through the hole on the drum and wiggle the adjuster round until the brake  locks, then back it off until the drum (just) spins freely.  It is then a matter of adjusting the cable so that the brakes lock at about 5 clicks as Ronnie says.

Thinks - I must check mine soon................ :)

Omega General Help / Re: So did changing my oil kill crank sensor?
« on: 21 November 2006, 20:08:59 »
On my previous 2.0, it failed just after I had filled up with Texaco 'super' (or whatever their best petrol was called at the time) - I think that because it is normally a random event (unless you clonk it or crimp the wire), and we all have a bit of logic in us somewhere, we try and look for a 'reason', rather than just accepting that s*ds law will often come into play :(
