Mines had a few chips / marks on it since i've had it (7 years) but has now started to split in the off side bottom corner.
Its covered on the insurance policy (100 quid excess) but we all know if you claim, the next premium WILL go up regardless of whatever ballcocks the insurance company says so the question is .................

Insurance job OR Cash job ?

Has anybody on here actually paid cash for a windscreen / new seal recently ?
If so, how much ?

I think it needs to be unrepairable accident to get it done on insurance ,even paying the excess 
they may offer to repair chips and class scratches etc are wear n tear

it would be handy if a lorry flicked up a big rock to properly **** the screen (so repair is NOT possible)  if you go the insurance route 
and with all the seals and trim involved to do the job properly and the cost of a screen I imagine it would be expensive

Though as the OP says, I notice when you apply for new policies now, there is a question along the lines of "have you made a claim in the last X years, including any windscreen claims"...

I haven't had a claim on the car insurance in well over 15 years and are pretty proud tbh.
Especially how I do like to rag the car around when quite (and allowed out)

I have very recently changed my insurance company on the Omegas. I had an expensive windscreen replacement claim about 4 years ago on my Audi insurance due to all the the recalibration of 'assist' systems that was required. I disclosed the claim, but they weren't fussed about it and stated it wouldn't affect it my new premium (which was very reasonable for the cover). Generally, in my experience, windscreen claims don't affect your premiums.

Windscreen replacement has been discussed quite a bit on here previously.
The quality of the end result depends on the ability of the windscreen fitter, the quality of the glass and being the correct profile, plus the availability of the retainers and seals. I had a cheapish aftermarket screen fitted 'cash in hand' on an Omega I was selling to get a 12 month MOT, but the fit of the screen wasn't good - if it was correct at one corner, then it was proud at the opposite, etc etc and no amount of correction / repositioning greatly improved the finished job. I hadn't heard of the glass manufacturer before which made me question it's quality. The mouldings were slightly proud at the top corners too which didn't look right.
The other screen I had fitted in an Omega was a genuine VX which at the time was quite reasonably priced, and I would in preference get another genuine one, but difficult now to find. The fit was perfect.
If I was ever to need a new screen again, it would have to be a good known make, genuine retainers and seals (now hard to get the complete set), and an invoiced job so I would have some comeback if the end result was not as good as it should be.

Right, 85 quid paid and windscreen man came with the wrong windscreen and no new seals so was sent on his way with a flea in his ear 

Same man is on his way around to my gaff today WITH seals but a non solar reflective windscreen 
Done a little research and it would seem that the blue tinted solar reflective windscreen is no longer made or in stock 

I know its short notice but can anybody tell me any different ??

I had a new solar reflective screen fitted by Autoglass approx. two years ago. They cocked it up though and the trim wont stay in place.
Ive given up trying to get it to now and just dont have one. I just wish I hadnt been to busy to realise what they had done at the time, but thats life etc..

The solar reflective screen is a different beast to the one with the blue tinted stripe across the top.

There's a picture here showing the difference, but basically the solar one has an extra layer in it and you can just see the edge of it in the upper corners of the mirror mount.

The tinted strip one is the 'standard' screen, and both were available in two types... With and without rain sensing wipers. I would be more concerned about that than the solar reflective part, especially if the car didn't have a solar screen from new. (if you can get it, it's a free ugrade, but you can't grumble if they turn up with the standard replacement if that's how the car was built.) 

When, or if, it gets fitted, make sure that the frames and rubber trims are fitted to the glass BEFORE it gets fitted to the car. This is the correct way and also the only way to ensure that the screen is seated correctly.

Trim should sit flat to the body in the corners, (like the tailgate glass) and not stick up or be kinked.

If I was having a replacement screen, I would definately go for the original standard screen with the 'tint'. I have a solar screen fitted to one of my Omegas (fitted before I got the car as a replacement), and it looks horrendous in certain lights - a silvery / blue reflective sheen that looks very 'chavvy'. Not my choice at all.

The solar reflective screen serves much more than a cosmetic purpose.

It actually helps reduce cabin temps if left in direct sunlight.

The car original spec was a solar reflective screen but sadly it would seem that these are unavailable which since the car hasn't been produced in nearly 20 year seems plausible.
New one is a bog standard with a graded tint at the top.
The old one was fubar'd if i'm honest.
Lots of deep scratches, a few stone chips and it was starting to delaminate too so glad to get rid 
As a added bonus, the bloke who fitted it made sure they supplied both parts of the seal so it fits a treat

It isn't a difficult job, as long as they take the time to do it right. The result speaks for itself. Shame about the solar glass, but as you say, not much to be done about that...

It was a National Windscreen job via Admiral.
A bloke from Lincoln fitted it and as far as I can see, its a cracking job too 
No bother with me rubbing down and treating a few rust spots while the screen was out
He also used to fit and certify LPG installs back in the day 
Had a nosey and was very impressed with my installation too
