aux belt
« on: 04 May 2009, 21:55:17 »

I have a 1999 vauxhall omega 3.0 elite and yesterday in the middle of no where with my young kids in the car the power steering went seconds later the red light and temp gauge light went on also the battery light came on,i got back to where i was staying, the engine did not overheat no steam etc the fan ran as normal,I`m guessing the aux belt runs the power steering alternater and water pump. The belt had shredded, whats the next step fit a new belt and check pulleys or will i have done more damage Help please

Check to see if the aux belt tensioner has seized or dissintergrated. If so replce, then check all other items which are belt driven to ensure they will spin by hand and are also not seized.Fit a new belt and with any luck you should be up and running again.

Remember the crank pulley won't turn by hand...
Logged
To do: Replace brake discs and pads; adjust already replaced shoes; check for leaks in oil cooler, cambelt area, crank seals, sump, dipstick; replace osf door; replace a tyre; clean, MOT.

Long as it didn't overheat shouldn't be a problem.  Check reason for belt failure - all pulleys ok including tensioner?  Refit belt & you should be away ;)

I recently bought a replacement aux belt at Caffyns,Ashford,Kent..(not far from Lizzie Zoom)
part no  vau 093181720 Belt,V,Ribbed
£31=35 ..  they gave me discount to £28=22 plus vat £4=23..paid £32=45
How can different dealers have such a wide price difference..I know we are nearer the coast??but Vauxhall should be consistent.
