Well, I was never one for GAYDAY!!

And, Corona had its first factory about three miles from me in Porth. The brand was created in South Wales by Thomas and Evans. Who would have thought they would have caused such trouble in China? Huawei they’re small fry :D ;D ;D

The number of cases in China is doubling every 2 days to reach 8000 confirmed cases yesterday on average each infected person is infecting between 1.4 & 3.8 people with person-to-person infections. Unlike SARS which was only infectious after you became ill, this is like flu and you are infectious before you know you have even got it. :o Assuming each person gives it to an average of 2.6 people, then
8000*2.614 2 day cycles ie in 28 days 5 billion of the population will have been infected. :o :o :o
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-51305526 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-51305526)
SARS killed 14-15% of those infected MERS kills 36% of ill people with 2019-nCoV currently killing 4-5% of those infected, so about 1 in 20 to 1 in 25 from primarily viral pneumonia with secondary bacterial pneumonia (like SARS) giving you double pneumonia. 1 in 20 to 1 in 25, meh I've got nothing to worry about! ::) It starts with an up to 10 day incubation period before you fall ill with normal flu like symptoms & a dry cough. In the second week it starts causing shortness of breath as pneumonia takes hold & can also damage your heart & kidneys making it more dangerous to those with problems with either. With SARS people that had secondary conditions like diabetes, Lupus, etc. had higher death rates. :(
Sorry, but you have got lots to worry about when it hits this country. More men than women died with SARS & they don't know why but they think where women have a rubella booster in their teens this may help & is being investigated. Less than 1% of children died, and death rates started climbing rapidly in over 45s with over 50% of over 65s dying as a result of the SARS infection. This new virus has much in common SARS although so far is is only about a 25-30% fatality rate compared to SARS but it is spreading much faster. When it hits the UK then the older UK population is going to be given a good cull. Spanish flu killed 50 million after WWI & I don't think it is unreasonable to think it is now too late to stop this becoming a global pandemic where far more die this time. For example, with the average age on here between 1 in 2 & 1 in 8 of us, dying as a result of a 2019-nCoV infection. >:(
As per usual the UN's & WHO's wait & see attitude before taking action to stop its spread, it now looks like it is now too late for this! >:(
All the usual precautions may help stop you getting it washing your hands after you have been in public places with hot soapy water & not touching your face or eyes will help.
There are currently no effective treatments with anti-viral drugs not working, so it is you & your immune system deciding which wins. :o Quite a few bio labs & drug companies are working hard to try & find effective anti-viral drugs & create new vaccines, with several companies hoping to begin human trials of new vaccines during the summer & have the vaccine ready before next winter. :y

Pardon? ;D

I don't understand why when they're trying to contain such a virus they start flying people all over the world to put them in quarantine, why don't they just do that in China?Do the aircrews and indeed the aircraft itself have to be quarantined too?

If they put, say, 80 people in quarantine and one person is infected, then that's 79 more, surely?
-
I mean, they all travelled on the same plane. Surely that would be close enough to spread it.
-
True, but that would be the case wherever they're quarantined so why not just quarantine them in China as opposed to flying them all over the world potentially spreading the virus even further/quicker?
-
TB's cull has started :-\
explains his absence for 2 weeks ,jet setting doing deliveries ;D :D
note his hate for Ebay china corresponds with most reported cases ::)
coincidence :-\

Yeah, I agree with you. I was just reinforcing your original post.

Jaime's cull involves guns and bullets and nooses. Lots of them. No good pissing about with a virus that may, or may not, kill you.

Ah,my apologies for mis-interpreting your post :y

The crew are Spanish. Ergo, they clearly survived Spanish Flu so are probably immune :P

They landed them at Brize Norton then coached them half the length of the country to the Wirral. Why not quarantine them closer to Brize Norton or land them closer to their destination?Showed the coaches setting off on the news this morning, one which can clearly be seen has someone on the passenger side and slightly behind the driver[first passenger seat?]dressed in what appears to be hazmat gear while the driver is wearing probably company uniform and not even a mask :-X
-
It's OK, the drivers agreed to do it, and once back they would be paid for ten days holiday (2weeks off with rest days) and the coaches would be deep cleaned and also quarantined for two weeks.
-
Bro and SIL are on a cruise from Dubai to Hong Kong, and have already been told that they won't be stopping there. Be interesting to see where they do end up, as they were supposed to be there for a week afterwards :-\

They were originally going to land at John Lennon International (Liverpool) but the Spanish Airline demanded a gaurantee from the UK government that the aircraft would still have all its wheels at the planned time of departure.........

Only so that they have it ready to bring all the expats home... Which needs to be finished before Norwegian restart their summer long haul schedule with all the Boeing Dreamgliders* they have in stock.
*WAMOS pick up most of the shortfall in the Rolls Royce powered Norwegian B787 fleet.

Now that the death toll on mainland China has topped 1,000 it's been reported that they've "removed" an unspecified number of officials.Given the way the Chinese tend to "remove" people I don't reckon much to their future job prospects :-X

The extra 2,500 people diagnosed each day in China are all in the same high rise block. Each block they test, they find every person has it and some have died. Probably cleansing Wuhan block by block. Give it another week or so and the recovery numbers will start to increase markedly. Already the cured numbers are four times more than the fatalities, and over half the number of those critical... ;)

Are the Chinese using the ancient German form of block cleansing. Similar to how they sack Government officials who fook up

Death toll of those that have had it, in China, and are now well again seems to be running at about 1% so no where as dangerous as SARS where the death toll was 14-15% with it running at over 50% in the over 65s. As of yesterday the numbers in China are: 40171 confirmed cases and 187,518 under medical observation. The daily infection rates in China are dropping from a peak of over 3,000 to under that yesterday.
The UK person that caught it, at a conference, in Singapore, a super spreader, then went on holiday to France and then back in Brighton who has given it to a few more people including 2 GPs. I will be surprised if we don't now have a pandemic in the UK where it spreads very easily as an airborne virus by somebody before they know they have got it! :(
For the majority it will be a mild illness but a percentage will get viral pneumonia and 1% will die. This will be mainly older people with other medical conditions. The key to survival with pneumonia is getting treatment early, if you don't you can't be saved. My wife has had pneumonia several times and she has been to her GP and then hospital treatment, another person I know who left it late was told by the doctors that if he had left it another 24 hours they would have not been able to save him where he spend 2 weeks in our local hospital in an isolation room having treatment. When I went to see him I have to dress into a paper protection suit, hair cover and mask to see him. :o

Did you know that you can ask for a vaccination against pneumonia over the counter in the chemists here in Spain? . It only costs 80 euros and lasts your lifetime apparently.

Free in the UK once you reach 65 .... :)

That is very interesting especially those especially at risk. My brother spent many years as a welder and a good friend has a cochlear implant.

Yes but of course but it doesn’t mean you won’t still get it as it’s just mainly to help fight it by boosting your immune system👍

There are two types of pneumonia Bacterial & Viral & when you have both at the same time it is called double pneumonia. Tis vaccine, which I've had, protects against bacterial pneumonia. Still worth having to protect against double pneumonia but it offers no protection against Covid-19 pneumonia as this a a viral pneumonia.
