Omega General Help / Calling all experienced V6 owners...
« on: 28 January 2012, 19:17:28 »
I'm a little puzzled, but I'm certain that this what I'm about to report will be common to some of you, so I'm seeking consensus on my apparent coolant problem...
Here's the physical symptoms:- "loses" approx 3 pints of coolant every 100 miles or so. Emulsification in oil filler neck. "dipped" oil shows no signs of water/oil mix. Engine temperature never rises above 'normal', according to the gauge, anyway. Does smell a bit 'hot' on parking it up after a longish run - more than 20 miles or so. No loss of performance whatsoever.
What have I got, chaps?
Car is 2000 f/l 3.0 V6 Elite, completely standard.

Omega General Help / Not enjoying my 'Starsky & Hutch' miggy!
« on: 18 November 2011, 13:32:50 »
My self-levelling has gone awry  >:(

Handling, never all that sparkling on this big heavy car, now absolutely horrible.
Think the pump was working before I pulled fuze 27, but it's made no difference - still sitting up at the back like its had a badly-repaired shunt  :(
Pump failure?
Can the car be somehow manually wound back down?
What's the worst case scenario financially at a decent independent?

Cheers for any and all advice, chaps and chapesses.

Re above - does anyone know how to identify them, i.e what identifying marks will they carry (if any)?

Omega General Help / Not firing on all 6
« on: 23 April 2011, 16:28:55 »
Over the last week or so, my 3.0 Elite doesn't seem to be firing on all 6 on initial start-up. Doesn't do it all the time, but will do it more often than not on either cold or hot start. Tends to clear itself and run properly within moments of drive being engaged. Plugs last changed for 100K service - mileage now 111K.
Can't see any oil.
Likely causes?

I've had a root around on the net for these, as the 'V' in which the Griffin sits is de-laminating on mine. I'm going to get the car repainted this year, and when I do, I'll change the grille too.
Any recommendations? I'm not about to pay a kings ransom for an Irmscher; just want something tidy that fits well....

Omega General Help / Rattling gearshift selector
« on: 19 March 2011, 10:06:27 »
My auto box shift selector rattles when going over poor surfaces (which lets face it on UK roads is most of the time  ::)).
I'd have thought it has nylon bushes, and that these are the culprits. Am I right, and if so, how easy a job is it to replace them?

It's just starting to get too annoying to continue to tolerate....

Thanks chaps....

Omega General Help / Alarm!
« on: 11 January 2011, 19:54:58 »
I park it, double-click the fob, and within 5 mins or so the flashers are going off  [smiley=cry.gif]

It's not hugely predictable, but it's doing it more recently. I know there are likely to be a myriad of possible causes, but i'm assuming that it's happened to at least one of you before, and there may be a common or most likely cause?

Omega General Help / Anywhere else other than Wheels in Motion?
« on: 21 December 2010, 10:32:17 »
My recently purchased 3.0 Elite F/L saloon seems to be a good 'un (1000 miles with absolutely no issues to report  [smiley=laugh.gif], but it DOES tramline a bit. There seems to be differences of opinion on here over just how much tyre choice affects this (the fronts on mine are mis-matched and I will get them changed shortly in any case), with most of you pointing at the suspension bushes and correct set-up as being of crucial importance. Wheels in Motion in Chesham seem to be the daddys for this, but do any of you have positive experiences of any other firm capable of doing this correctly closer to my home town of Salisbury, Wilts?
Also, could anyone give me a bit of a price guide?

many thanks to you all in advance.... [smiley=dankk2.gif]

Omega General Help / Sincere apologies if these are common problems!
« on: 23 November 2010, 19:29:02 »
hello everyone!

Bought a 2000 (W) 3.0 Elite Auto (saloon) today to keep my workhorse 2.5 GLS Estate company! I love these cars, but need a little advice on the car I've just purchased; hope one or two of you guys can help.

1). The car had been standing for approx 4 months before I bought it today, and the battery had gone flat. Jump starting meant the vendor disconnecting the battery, thus losing the functionality of the Bose sound system. The code for same is not present in any of the manuals. How do I obtain it?

2). Presumably for the same inactivity reasons, the back-box is blowing slightly - roughly how much am I in for to replace same?

3). All the 17' alloys have been kerbed; anyone know of anyone reasonably local to Salisbury that refurbs these without charging a total fortune?

I want to keep the car up together, but can't afford to maintain it regardless of expense.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks all.....

Ian

Hello everyone - just bought my 2nd Omega today!
I love these cars, but have one or two issues that some of you experienced owners can hopefully help me with  ;)

I've dutifully posted these in the correct place (I think!)

Omega Gallery / My obsession!
« on: 13 February 2011, 12:10:56 »
Here's a few pics of my 3.0 Elite auto, bought quite cheaply last November. She's not perfect, but she's pretty good all round, and after a bath and good towelling down, this is what she looks like!

She has 108K on the clock ( I bought it at 105K, and there have been no nasty gremlins suracing in those 3000 miles  :)), the 'sport' button is waaaay too addictive, and I'm totally in love with it! The guy I bought it from told me it's early life was as a royal protection vehicle - the fixings for the gun safe can be found under the boot carpet!
I'm due a big back-dated pay increase in March (hopefully), when I'll have the front suspension sorted, the alloys refurbed, some small scuffs and dings sorted, and a good service.....I know that what i spend on it I'll never recover financially, but thats really not the point - so long as I can justify the petrol costs, I'll never sell it... :)

WHAT A RACE!!

Hollywood couldn't possibly sell a script that has the winner pitting 6 times, surviving two collisions, and coming from plum last to win on the final lap!

Doubt that I've ever seen a more electric GP - fantastic entertainment, and well done JENSON BUTTON  :) :)

Brilliant drive.... ;)

General Car Chat / Replacement numberplates
« on: 08 June 2011, 18:33:43 »
Two of the figures on my front number plate have delaminated from pressure jet washing - it means that my full numberplate wont be completely legible from a distance, so I'm going to have to replace it.

Thing is, I want to retain the original dealer info and logo on the bottom of it, and don't want to have to go to Bath to get the original dealer to make another one up for me.

I read in 'Practical Classics' last month about a guy who had beautifully restored an Alfasud (brave man 8-)), and he had also wanted to retain the original dealer info/logo on his plates, and although that dealer no longer exists, he took his request along to (presumably) a local auto factor type place and they recreated it for him.

Anybody else heard of this? Is this something they can all do?

If I gave them my existing (damaged) plate, what is the process from there?

General Car Chat / Eek!
« on: 25 May 2011, 18:32:02 »
My Elite is at the garage, having a new rear offside wheel bearing, and a front wishbone bush sorted. I can't drive at mo as I have a busted ankle, so it was a good time to get it in.
Garage phoned this p.m - theyve got the new wheel bearing in (took over three hours, apparently), but the hub flange is also damaged, so need a new one of those too. Wishbone bush sorted, but my man also noticed that both rear springs have snapped at their mounting points  :o
Was budgeting for a bill for around £300 - looks like its going to be about double that.... :(

Have seen threads on here before about snapped rear springs - just how common is this, and is there a better type of spring that might prove more durable?

Also, when its done, just how much better is it going to drive?! I'm embarrassed to say that I really hadn't noticed any deterioration in the handling  :-/

Saw a nice 3.0 Elite Saloon in Salisbury tonight - think the reg was W 581 MUY. Twas a red' un. Anybody's on here?

Theres also a guy with what I think is an Elite Estate in Krypton Green (that is, I KNOW it's a Krypton Green Estate, just not sure if its an Elite as I havent seen it parked anywhere yet  :)), running around on a private plate, which would tend to suggest somebody loves it enough to maybe be on here too....anyone's?

Just interested..... :)
