Gone back to the Mighty Meega :)
« on: 11 July 2011, 00:40:09 »

Well, after a noticable absence from rwd, i have come back home. Was running a v6 calibra for a while but she died on the way back from my girlfriends house in Poole so i decided to get rid.
Courtesy of a small donation from HMRC and a little from my backpocket, i had about £650 to spare so started my search. Saw quite a few Omega 'C's on ebay but all were either way too ropey or had problems indicitive of forthcoming major problems. So, i then had a look in our local rag and came across an Elite estate on a P reg with 97k, full Vaux service history, thousands of pound spent and tight as a nut for £750. Spoke to blokey and a few days later, i ended up with a true gem of a find for £650 (oh, and taxed and mot'd as well!)
Even came with a little notebook that the previous owner had kept from 1998 when he bought it to 2010 detailing the date, mileage, job done from replacing a valve cap on a tyre to services or other such repairs.
I shall let the pictures do the talking :)

And just for a laugh, sporting a Cadillac Catera grille (dont think it wil be staying on seeing as i have the irmscher grill and rear spoiler lol)

Nah, i really kinda dont like the grille to be honest. Does not locate into the bumper like the original and hence flaps about a bit so i think ill be putting the standard one back on :)
I have brought a lot less car for a lot more than i paid for this one so i am rather impressed with it :)

Thanks for the comments, the grille is coming off tomorrow as i really dont think it suits miggys lines so back with the standard irmscher one methinks :)
Had a nice compliment whilst filling her up earlier, bloke on the pump next to me said just how quiet she was considering she is on a P plate. Quite liked that :)

Most people would probably think that's a little steep for the year but seeing as it looks like it's been well looked after, I think you got a good buy :y.

PS. I take it it's a pre-mini facelift and hasn't got the adjustable steering, if so it's a cheap and easy job to change the column as I did on mine and there's a guide in the maintenance section :y.

I would assume you are right and to be honest, the steering wheel is in just the right position for me so wont bother faffing around with that.
Going down the lines of lots of Irmscher goodies now so we shall see how it all pans out :)
The way i look at it, if you were out to get a car of a similar age, mileage, spec, it kind of only leave you with Mercede's, BMW's, higher spec Audi's and not a lot else and from what i found whilst searching, you wont get much change from a grand especially with the service history, tax and test.
If you want to be a marque elitest then thats fair enough but i have had more than my fair share of cars and i say beyond a shadow of a doubt that apart from my Nissan 300ZX twin turbo, this Omega is the best it gets for the cash :)

Bit of work done today. Swapped the n/s speaker over, unfortunately the replacement does not have the connection for the tweeter but i can live with that :)
Swapped the Irmscher grille for something a little different

Also swapped the interior wooden plastic for something a little less 'grandad car'ish' lol

Yep, much nicer methinks :)
