no rear fog lights
« on: 05 February 2010, 18:37:20 »

Press the rear fog button and the rear fog light symbol on the dash comes on but the rear fog lights do not.

Both bulbs in the boot lid under the reversing lights look fine as the filaments look visibly intact....thinking about it i havent metered it for a 12v though, probably should have done.

Missing damaged blue/black link wire missing from the towbar connector?  :-/
Or IIRC someone else had a damaged wire where the loom is clipped to the boot hinge. :-/

Seem to recall a previous thread many moons ago about a broken wire near the boot hinge, but can`t remember which forum that was on, so may not be Omega I`m thinking of?

The wires regularly break near the passenger boot hinge, I've got an earth wire borken in mine, it's just twisted together with some insulting tape on it. I must get round to soldering it ;D ;D

i did have a very quick look at the loom by the hinge in the failing light. Didnt see anything obvious esp in the tightest bend.

I'm also fairly sure they did work once in my ownership as they said "stick a fog light bulb in it" after it passed the mot, but it wasnt mentioned at the mot prior to. Sure i've seen them working but i've buggered about with all that area when fitting lpg and tow bar although i've not sorted the tow bar electrics yet, i didnt see any wire in the tow bar connecter? if thats what you guys mean by the link wire? i have fitted the bulb in the dash for tow bar in preperation if thats relevant?

Mine had a couple of breaks - if you are lucky the hinge is easiest to repair

The fog light wire loops through the towbar pre-wiring connector. A set of contacts break this connection when a connector is inserted, the idea being that the circuit is then made via a set of contacts in the 12p connector, and broken when a trailer is plugged in.

I would start by verifying that you have 12v on both sides of this contact at the pre-wiring connector. If so, likely a wire failure by the boot hinge.
