CDR 500 glove box fitment in facelift?
« on: 06 October 2011, 23:22:43 »

I have a new project Omega, where it's not possible to fit a normal double din Omega unit in the dash...i.e. a ccr 2006, cdr 2005 etc.
Would it be possible to fit a CDR 500 single din in the glovebox, and have the radio controls work?
I know nothing of prefacelift Omega's...but I guess they must have had a CDR 500, I know the Astra G and Vec B did of the same era.
Or are there any other options?

As you know Josh, anything is possible  ;)

You'd need to find the ISO plug and aerial from the centre console, extend all the wiring so that it would reach the glovebox and build a suitable mount in there :y

Sounds like an interesting project ::)

If you are extending wires to the glovebox to fit a stereo there and not in the dash (no problems with that one) - why not go the whole hog and put something decent in there ?

Seems a lot of work for a really basic CD player  :-\

Indeed, possible.

Is this a project that you had considered before? ::)

Dave DND - if you heard JoshWyatts (odd, for such a young chap) choice of music, you'd agree that a cdr500 was overkill :P

Nope,78,s were one of the steps which led to the vinyl record. Why move on from something when it is superior to all that came after it ?
Digital sound is an abomination which can never match the natural warmth of the sound from vinyl on a good setup.
Many people are returningto vinyl now. CD,s were a con by the industry, and MP3 etc. is similar. ;)

Whilst I`ll agree with the argument that Vinyl will always sound "Warmer" than a CD, have you ever heard something that has been recorded onto an SACD ??

I reckon that it gives vinyl a definate run for its money as in my opinion SACD is the only format I have heard so far that sounds infinately better !!

Vinyl,  = smaller bandwidth than CD,  higher noise floor,  less speed stability ,  and smaller dynamic range than CD...

seriously, anyone claiming vinyl as way superior in any technical department whatsoever is , fooling themselves, or clueless, sorry if that's a bit confrontational, but as a professional audio engineer i find this endless litany of the old skool  hif fi buff really rather stupid.

yes, if you have really REALLY shit  D/A conversion, and an ancient transport mechanism , then CD can sound a bit naff,  but any decent system blows the socks off any vinyl system on the planet...

i can produce endless technical data to support ALL the opening statements.
