(for the record, i'm  ex BBC,  the team i'm involved with  has won sony awards for our live recordings for classic fm,  , gramophone awards for Classical CD release recordings,  emmy nominations, and oscar nominations,   if you've ever spent much time playing modern console games, you'll have heard my work, most  especially those music related ones ending in Hero, or Star.... )

as you hint, max, dome cheapo early ones had poor d/a converters, meaning a quality vinyl setup could easily match it. But even the cheapest cd player now is far superior

Its all about the "feel" imo and you cant match vinyl for that.Just like the latest most advanced guitar amp can never possibly sound as good as an old valve amp from the 50,s/60,s. ;)............anyway,you listen to queen and bongo bongo so your in no position to judge. :P :D ;D

I'd disagree about the guitar amp to some extent, but not in spirit.... Purely because a number of modern amps share the same core design topology as classic amps, but take the quality and attention to detail to entirely new levels, giving an amp with all the tone , but much less noise.... And both as a guitarist, and engineer, I consider that better.....  but there are also modern hi tech amps that fully fit your description and metaphor

Seems Mr Albzhiemers is still stuck in the past. Although he hasn't mentioned  a certain has been Canadian f1 driver yet, or some 19** Duckerdy Desmo steam powered creation as being the best in the world ever, yet. But give it time. ;D

Of course, everything which is newer, more recent is automatically better - which is why Take that are an infinitely better band then the Beatles ever were. :y

Just because I was probably conceived whilst my parents were listening to the Beatles, it doesn`t necessarily make me a fan !!

;D ;D cant help but have huge respect though - the talent, imagination, originality etc. and still the benchmark by which all others are judged nearly 50 years later. ;)

Whilst I`ll agree with the argument that Vinyl will always sound "Warmer" than a CD, have you ever heard something that has been recorded onto an SACD ??

I reckon that it gives vinyl a definate run for its money as in my opinion SACD is the only format I have heard so far that sounds infinately better !!

 ???

Both SACD and DVD-Audio are much better than CD and I think better than vinyl.
