General Car Chat / 2.5 TD Automatic Gearbox Slipped
« on: 26 June 2016, 15:53:05 »

Hi Guys,

I drove over a pot hole in a rush earlier on and noticed my Omega didn't want to pick up speed, as if it was stuck in neutral, when joining the A13 . I had to pull over and select Park and was nervous about what to do, as I never had a problem like that with my manual Omega. Then selected Drive and it drove off again. As I'm inexperienced with auto boxes, is there any way that a bump from a small pot hole which my left wheels drove over can cause my box to slip? The car is generally reliable except for the recent serpentine belt and water pump which wore away at the same time after 154000 miles.
Mark is there anything that I need to check?

Omega General Help / Re:Buying a New Omega
« on: 06 March 2014, 06:16:54 »
I wouldn't mind the MV6 at all, but the fuel consumption figures put you off when compared to a diesel. I did a return trip from London to Newquay once in a manual diesel on a full tank. Can the same be said for the petrol version. Another option would be to fit the manual gearbox from the diesel to the MV6, has anyone tried that before. Is the bell housing/bolt pattern the same?

Omega General Help / Re:Buying a New Omega

Hi guys,

I am looking for a new car as my tractor was written off as a CAT B, all because of it's value 3 weeks ago. I've been looking at a 2000 model 2.5 diesel automatic on the Auto Trader for £1599 and the best price the deal can reduce it to is £1500. Is it worth the money, as it has 70K on the clock and full service history.
I've also seen a 2000 MV6 3.0 for £995 on Auto trader with 77k on the clock ,but this one has 3 owners and part service history.

Which is the best of the 2? Even though I like the MV6, I don't want the hastle of worrying about when the cambelt was last changed.

Omega General Help / Re:Wet Passenger Side Floor
« on: 17 March 2013, 19:19:06 »
Ok, before seeing your replies, I sat in the with the sill cover off while it rained earlier and saw no water come from the doors.
I guess the plastic behind the door cards should be fine. Will work on the scuttle next.
Tunnie, I'm in Eastham.

Hi Guys,

Since I've moved to a new place, my omega's carpets are damp on the passenger side and after opening the door sill earlier on, found that the underlay is soaked with water.  At first, I thought that the floor may be rusty, but it looks like new. Where can the water be coming from? Do omegas have a problem with leaks from the scuttle, etc?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: all odometers stop working
« on: 11 November 2011, 06:22:53 »
I've had the same problem while driving back from Cornwall and while crawling through traffic, noticed the speedo stuck at 30mph and everything else  dead.Doing a voltage check didn't show any fault, but checking each fuse did. For some reason, the electric windows and the dash share the same fuse, as well as the sunroof. Hope this helps. :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re:Sunroof Operation
« on: 11 April 2010, 16:00:12 »
Hi,
I had a problem with my sunroof not opening at all since late summer last year. The light bulb does not work either.I followed the tip on forum about magnetising the magnetic disc which I've done. When fitted and turned the dial,it only opens upwards and does not close down fully.I would have to use a flat screwdriver to turn the gear that slides it back fully.I magnetised it on a fridge magnet.Should I have used a speaker magnet instead? :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re:Windscreen wiper speed
« on: 01 August 2007, 14:22:33 »
I find that my wipers can only operate in position 3. If I try 1& 2, I hear this clicking sound but no movement. Before judging the motor, is there anything else that can be wrong?

Omega General Help / Re:Rusty Tractor
« on: 07 August 2011, 22:15:00 »
Hi,

The 16 year old tractor passed it's MOT yesterday, but I was advised to treat the corrosion on the doors and parts of the body like the under carriage. From looking at the cost of cuttng/welding/respraying, it could cost the price of another mig. Although the guy advised me to go the fibreglass resin route, I'm sceptical about it. The other option is to use lead/tin body solder and was wondering if any of you have used it before. I still want to keep it, as it's a good family car with 185000 miles and never let me down.

Omega General Help / Re: Re:TD Instrument Panel is Dead
« on: 03 July 2011, 18:29:51 »
Just finished testing the fuses and found fuse no.15 blown. Changed the fuse and the dash lights now switch on and off as normal when turning the key and starting the engine. The engine starts on the turn, but the gauges (speedo-stuck at 15mph, rev counter, temperature and fuel) are dead. Is it time to replace the instrument panel? :question

You must mean fuse no.14, which also  connects to power steering and cigarette lighter. I had the satnav connected to the cigarette lighter throughout the journey, but I didn't check if it was charging. I'll test the fuse and get back to  you. I managed to override the driver's door window switch to close the window as there is +12v when connecting the meter to the fuse.I open the dash panel and reconnected ,but still the same. Also when starting the car, it takes a while to crank, as if there is no fuel going in.The speedo is still stuck at 15 mph, the oddometer and trip counter stuck from over 230 miles ago. :question

Hi Guys,

While driving back on the M5 back to London today, my Dash panel went dead about half way to Bristol, i.e. no rev counter,no temperature gauge, no fuel gauge, no dash  lights and the speedo is stuck at 15mph even with  the engine switched off. The windows stopped working, as well as the sunroof. The car starts and runs, but I'm relying on a Tomtom's speedo. Any clues, before loosing hope and calling the AA :-/????

I see these OBD kits for sale on the internet, but hardly anyone seems to have a kit for a 95 Omega.
tech2 seems to only fit Omegas built from 97 onwards. Is there some sort of adaptor kit for my OBD socket?
