Mine really needs doing, but my local Vx garage (in Slough) told me that Vx don't recommend Dex3 anymore,    -   and sold me lots of Dex2.   Haven't looked at the job yet, apart from lifting one side of the beast and deciding that there's NO WAY I can get under there & get to the bits!
All this & petrol getting to £5 / gallon.............Anyone want a 1999 3.0  Elite on 84000 miles....................?

just don't go to the 'fast fitter' shop - did mine, and what was fast silent and serene is now fast noisy and VERY irritating !

Omega General Help / Re: Camshaft Sensor

On my old 2.5 I couldn't get the sensor out because the oil filter case had a "projection" that stopped me pulling the sensor out. I had to remove the filter, use a long reach socket inside the filter case, loosen the bolt and rotate the filter a few degrees in order to make room. After that it was easy !!!  (ish) .... :)

Could this be your problem ??
Might be, cos last year I had to change the oil-filter case................bullocks !    It only gets worse doesn't it ?

i hope you mean crank sensor - the one by oil filter.

once the torx is removed, it just pulls out.

is it plastic or metal?

Sorry, Yes I mean the Crank sensor !!!
Have removed the torx, can spin it a bit, but can't pull it out, - too slippery when I'm lying on the road under the beast....will try again when I'm warmer!   It's a cheapo metal, and it crumbles when I try to extract it with a teeny-weeny mole-type wrench!

Omega General Help / Camshaft Sensor
« on: 25 February 2008, 22:12:56 »
Having had the beast purring along beautifully for ages now, today was a nightmare!  It suddenly stopped running TWICE on the dreaded North Circular in NW London approaching the equally dreaded Hangar Lane Gyratory System. To those of you who don't know where this lot is-----congratulations, & try to keep it that way ! Anyway, had to be towed home bum in air by a recovery vehicle  :'( .   Paper-Clip test came up with 19 - camshaft sensor.   Found all I need on this excellent site, rang a local VX dealer, who confirmed that there are two types of connector, so I took off the wiper arms, removed the scuttle, but couldn't see which plug was meant in the write-up.  So I unscrewed the sensor, thinking I'd pull on the armoured wiring  & trace the connector that way.   Now the problem, -- can't get the sensor out!  I can rotate it about it's axis, but cant get the charming thing out, 'cos it's a bit oily & I can't get a grip! (Guess that's a clue as to why it's playing up!!!) Anyone know /remember how deep it sits in it's recess? Can't do anything tomorrow as I'm out all day,  but it'd be nice to know something before I start lying on the road on Wednesday!

Omega General Help / replacement exhaust
« on: 01 April 2007, 22:50:06 »
Probably an old query.....................I was silly enough recently to go to a very well-known (for it's quick fitters) exhaust-replacement centre for the 2 middle and 1 back box for my '99 3.0 elite.......................cost circa £273. (THe exhaust that is, nearly as much as the car!!)
What was once swift, silent, & serene, is now still swift, but certainly not silent or serene.................If I wanted to sound like a boy racer I'd be delighted, but being an 'Old Git', I'm much happier with a bit of hush!    Anyone know how much a proper silencer costs?
The original was 8 years old, and worked.  The replacement has a 3 year guarantee, & is not nearly as quiet!

Is your engine overheating?
[/quote]

Well, now & again the temp is right up and the red light is on!
Ran it in the drive this morning and at between 90 - 95 degrees the Aux fan comes in, but the main fan didn't start at all.
Usually on a run it's 97 ish.     No problem till you get stuck in a jam!

Anyone know what controls the coolant fans?    '99 3.0 Elite (with three fans)  The only one that seems to run is the front offside Aux fan.     The Main fan (between radiator & engine) doesn't seem to work anytime.          Haynes wiring diagrams are beyond me!!

Ta, I had a feeling as I was lying there that it wouldn't be easy!   All I need is a high-lift and four arms.   Ain't it a pain when an easy routine job suddenly goes tits-up!

Just done an oil change after 5500 ish miles as is my want.     Last time I carefully, as usual, torqued the filter holder.   This time, trying to undo it, the whole caboodle started turning!   As I was lying on my back underneath this heavy beast of a car, I turned it back to where it had been and didn't change the filter (Well, I WAS tired & hungover, and didn't know what was going to happen!)  Does anyone know if the whole unit will come off and be separable once it's off?    (Difficult in that position to see if there's room to take the whole thing off, and how sturdy the casing is!)

You could always try like I did, and physically move the lights, but then I suppose your main beams would be up in the trees!!   So many of these Xenon lights are just too high, but it seems to be accepted now.    I wonder if there's a way of adjusting dip & main beams seperately?..................Doubt it!!
If you find the answer let me know.
Cheers.

Do you mean Main or Dipped beam?       When I got my '99 Elite, I was embarrassed by how high the headlight aim was, both on main & dipped beam. No fault messages, but I know how annoying these Xenon headlights are from being constantly dazzled by other w***kers dipped beams.       I physically moved the headlamps position by elongating the top mounting screw holes into slots, and the dipped beam is now a bit low, but non-dazzling to other drivers.   The main beam (non-xenon?) is still a bit high, but useable!   Wonder if it's worth paying a Vx garage to check them?

Hey Guys,
I'm Alec, an ex-Flight Engineer (10 Stars to those who know what that is/was!!)....Retired young & dumped the old 3 litre Senator, bought a good retiree's car..Nissan Primera Estate 2.0 with a cam-CHAIN that apparently lasts forever.........only to get hold of a genuine 21000 miles Omega Elite (Saloon unfortunately) at a very good price from a friend who was too ill to drive........................& is no longer with us :'(
Love it but - shit, if you drive it like you should drive a 3 litre car it just gets rid of petrol like I'm George Bush!!      Fun Though!!
