Damn, I wish I had the knowledge and expertise of some of you guys on here!!

Took the Miggy in to my local garage yesterday for a major 10k service and told them I'd also got a small oil leak somewhere but I didn't think it would be the rocker cover seals as they were only done a year ago. Anyway, I get a phone call just after lunchtime - yup, the right hand rocker cover's leaking again and they couldn't get one in until today, so I'd have to leave it in overnight. ALSO required was new brake pads and sensors all round, new brake fluid, coolant change and 3 new tyres in addition to the major service. Oh....and yes, I did tell them to make sure they cleaned the crankcase breathers!! Then I've just had another phone call - the bloody rocker cover and gasket kit didn't turn up from their VX parts supplier so its got to spend another night there....grrrrrr

Don't know what the cost is going to be yet but it ain't gonna be cheap........my poor wallet!!

Hope they flushed the fluid and not just topped up, again with coolant change...

Sorry, I meant brake pads all round and sensors on the front. I would assume they get their parts trade as they're a well established independent garage. I'll ask them about the coolant - what is the reason that they shouldn't just top it up?

Ask what cam cover gaskets they are using....they MUST be genuine or its not worth bothering with!

Sorry, I meant brake pads all round and sensors on the front. I would assume they get their parts trade as they're a well established independent garage. I'll ask them about the coolant - what is the reason that they shouldn't just top it up?

They will get the parts trade Bob, but they'll charge you retail. I think the idea was for you to get the bits.

Yeh this happened to me, manky coolant and he never flushed it just emptied it and topped it up, was a waste of time and money!

Yes, my favourite dealer - the lying, dishonest, scumbags who LB66 won't allow me to mention, did the same to my coolant and brake fluid. And disconnected the handbrake

I know what you mean but I've used this garage for several years now and one thing in their favour is that they never rip me (or anyone as far as I know) off. Their prices are damn reasonable for this area and the standard of workmanship is generally very good. I've used them since they first started up in business and on first name terms with all the guys that work there. On rare occassions when they drop a clanger (which is rare), they rectify it at their expense without question. Most of my relatives and friends in the area also now use them on my recommendation and are all happy with the service, so I'm not complaining if they add on a small amount for the parts they get from trade. Unfortunately, people like me who find that anything under the bonnet is an alien world rely on these independents. Also, they do give me the opportunity to get parts myself if they think I can get them cheaper like fleabay or similar, which I have done on occassions.

Finally got my car back last night after 3 days due to parts supplier not turning up with rocker box & gaskets when they should have. As suspected, the bill was a bit of a wallet basher, but I thought it was fairly reasonable for the work carried out. Anyway, here's the details:-

Full major service including air filter, oil filter, oil, fuel filter, pollen filter, spark plugs, front brake pads and sensors, brakes cleaned and adjusted, brake cleaner.
Rocker box and gaskets
Crankcase breathers cleaned (they weren't too bad apparently)
New tyre, valve & balance
Coolant/antifreeze change
Brake fluid change
gearbox & diff oil checked/topped up
New sump plug

..........and the cost

£393.90 + VAT
Total £462.83
