Omega General Help / Re: Removal of headlamp covers
« on: 17 June 2008, 14:04:15 »
I have done quite a few of these over the past few years.

I used strips of card to wedge under the clips then as Bruce suggested heat the area where the plastic lens joins the black casing with a hair drier or similar.

You then need a screw driver to prise the lens away enough to get a modelling knife in to cut the black glue.  Keep using the screwdiver and knife all around the join until the lens comes free. Easy once you have done one.

Note, don't touch the silvered reflectors inside. The silver coating rubs off!!!

Omega General Help / Re: Heated rear seats
« on: 14 September 2007, 20:17:17 »
Hi, I have successfully added the heater pads to the rear seats in my CDX a few years ago. As I recall you will need:

1. 2 X heater pads for seat bases (I did not bother with the heaters in the seat backs)
2. Heater relays (i think there are two)
3. Small section of wiring loom
4. 2 X switches for rear sectionof centre consul
5. Switch housing cover for above.

The wiring is straight forward and you will find a connector into the main loom under the rear seat base. I think the switch connectors and wiring are also in situ in the centre consul
You need to strip off the cloth trim of the heater base, stick down the heater pads with double sided tape then replace  everything.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi, Yet another 'newbie'
« on: 12 October 2006, 12:58:54 »
Hi, what a great forum. Only just discovered you. I am an escapee from the vauxhall owners network forum which had suddenly lost a number of the regular contributors (wondered where some of you had disappeared to!!!).

I drive two omegas, a 98 2.5 Elite in perfect nick and only 40K miles on the clock and the leather hardly creased and a 99 2.5 CDX with 50K miles which I have owned since new and which has slowly been converted to the Elite spec over the years.

Just finished fitting the Xenons (complete with self leveling equipment) and the leather interior with memory functions etc)

Both cars have never let me down but that is probably due to the fact I do all my servicing myself inluding the dreaded cam belt change but you are never too old to learn new tricks (I do let Vauxhall's do an annual oil change so I can get a  stamp in the servic history) . Found the 'How To..' sections really useful. Keep up the good work.

General Car Chat / Re: 2nd hand windscreens
« on: 02 September 2011, 22:23:03 »
I bought a second hand screen for my wife's Rover 400 a few months ago (off ebay) as the original had a crack and she was only third party.

I invested in some decent removal and handling gear to cut it out and then I fitted it using "professional" (expensive) adhesive.

Not a cheap exercise but at least I now have the equipment for future use.

Hardest part was removing the windscreen trims without breaking the plastic clips!!

General Car Chat / Re: MG ZT 2.5 V6
« on: 05 August 2011, 12:44:31 »
Have a shufty at the MG-Rover.org forum. Full of useful info.  :y

The 2.5 V6 are a lot of car for the money. Often sold cheaply when the time comes to change the belts.

Main dealers (X-part) charge a fortune (£600-800+) and independants often decline to do the work!!  :o

General Car Chat / Re: Mrs Skrunts Rover 25

Just been doing the "other halfs" Rover 400. Usual head gasket failure with the old style gasket.  :(

I have used the new MLS gasket, new stretch bolts and the uprated oil rail. All came as a kit (with more gaskets than you can shake a stick at!!) for around £110 which was much less then trying to source them seperately.

I notice that Rimmer Bros (who have fantastic stocks of Rover parts) are doing the new uprated oil rail (ref LCN000140L) at around £50 + P/P

Got mine thru last week.

General Car Chat / MOT pass - Yippee!
« on: 09 May 2011, 21:49:31 »
One of my Omega's lives for another 12 months and no advisories   :y

I get so tense whilst they do the test. It's like waiting for exam results. Then there is the pressure of fixing it if it does fail   >:(

General Car Chat / Re: plan to remove rust volume II
« on: 17 February 2011, 20:45:44 »
When I need paint I take something to the paint suppliers that has the body colour on and can be easily removed from the car. This is usually the petrol filler flap.

The paint suppliers can then use it to get a better paint match.

General Car Chat / Re: Maintenance Guides
« on: 14 January 2011, 16:34:23 »
The maintenance guides are great and far more realistic than the Haynes "simply undo XYZ" versions whilst working on a brand new car without any rusted on components in a fully equiped garage. >:(

I am a reasonable competent DIY mechanic and maintain two Omegas (and two other cars ) yet I still use the guides as a reference.

Also, although not that active on the forum front I do appreciate all the efforts that have gone into making them. How do you get the time to take photos and how do you keep the camera/mobile clean whilst you take the shots?? :D

I would not be wthout the guides and also the forums. You learn so much by sharing yet I accept that some people will always find fault. That's life!

Keep up the good work. :)

General Car Chat / Re: Vauxhall dealer parts clearance website
« on: 10 December 2010, 13:22:21 »
I hope you have better luck buying things on that website than I have!

I have tried to buy 7 items over the past 4 weeks and all were already sold. I don't think they update the website that often but they are very quick in getting back to you.

Good luck. :)

General Car Chat / Re: Self-levelling Xenon question :-)
« on: 23 November 2010, 21:09:43 »
If it is the levelling sensor your after then it is only available from your Vauxhall dealer as a complete unit. One at the front and one at the rear. I think each one is different.

You cannot get the individual components, eg arms, sensor, brackets etc.

They are not cheap! Last one I bought was around £55+

General Car Chat / Trade Card Expiry
« on: 15 October 2010, 11:28:00 »
Hello, as a regular user of TC for business use I was surprised to note that my current membership card had expired at the end of July 2010 and I had not received a replacement.

I presumed that a replacement would be sent but to avoid any future embarrassment at the parts department I rang the guy in charge of Trade Club (Vauxhall Luton) to see if he could send me a replacement.

He was not surprised and suggested that they were not sending out new ones until the new Trade Book in 2011.

On visiting my local dealer they happily processed my order as usual but I was ready for a "battle" if they had said no.

Has anyone received a replacement TC card recently?

Got my new Trade Card this weekend with funky new design. :D

Mine had also expired last year but parts dept still happy to give TC prices. (I spend enough with them!!!)

I wonder if we will get a book or is it going on-line?
