Central locking prob
« on: 14 October 2010, 21:57:54 »

When I lock the car with the remote the door lock pin on the drivers door sometimes goes down and the car locks normally, but when I open it with the remote the door lock pin doesnt come up with the others and the drivers door remains locked. If I lock and unlock the car by putting the key in the lock everything operates normally, but if I press the door lock pin down whilst in the car I am unable to pull it up again.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Sounds like the solenoid may be faulty, because you can open it mechanically.. :-/ it may though just be a sticky button, remove and clean and see how you get on... :y
I am sure more expert advice will follow....if I have this wrong..... :y

Sounds about right to me, there is a good guide to strip the solenoid down and clean

If the clean and lube does not cure the fault then it is probably the micro-switch in the solenoid which is causing problems.
If you are handy with a soldering iron there is a great "how to guide" which is not really difficult to do. The micro-switches are available from RS electronics.
I have repaired three solenoids so far and all have lasted.

Best wishes.

I had same problem on my drivers door - bought a solenoid of the bay for £6 - all sorted, works perfectly now!

Ime, the solenoid/motor either works or it doesn't, although it may not have the power to throw a sticky lock mechanism, others may have different experience though...???

So my theory, if a door locks or unlocks intermittently, the lock mechanism is stiff and needs a clean and lube as the motor is struggling to actuate it.

If a door lock is dead/never locks or unlocks then the motor has failed, usually because the motor has  burnt out trying to actuate the overly stiff door lock mechanism....afaict. ?

My experience being, intermit  door locking on pass side front, change the motor, fine for a couple of weeks, and failed to lock again exactly as before, obviously not the motor at fault, cleaned and lubed the lock and refitted the original motor as it was newer, made in 03 and other motor was 01, re assembled and it's been fine ever since, 9months now. :y

When I got the car at the weekend the actual door handle itsself was very stiff, oiled the catch and it has been fine since, must try the same with the lock now.

Tried oiling and cleaning everything but the prob still persists, more so when trying to open the car. The motor seems to try and pull the button down when locking but doesnt seem able to push it back up when opening. Still works fine when key is in door so maybe the microswitches are gone?
