New Irmscher Bumper...
« on: 06 May 2012, 08:46:46 »

A few weeks ago I asked on here if anyone was able to prep and respray my new aquisition  ::)

Glyn, aka Zippy2012, kindly offered to do so :y

After some rotten damp weather and other commitments etc, he's finally been able to get his teeth (and back) into it and what a great job he's done so far!

To get to this stage has been a bit of a pig apparently. With approx 7 layers of paint on top of each other  :o

It appears that when it has been resprayed, it hasn't been rubbed down/prepped properly, which has caused the paint to flake ::)

But Glyn has stuck with it and been able to clean it up even in the lower vanes and round the foglights....

As you can see, it now has the primer on and is starting to look more presentable with just this on :)

Then last night, he applied a rubber coating to the lower half of the bumper to help with the constant hammering from road debris etc...

Excellent work so far, just can't wait to see it finished and sitting on the car :)

Cheers for all the hard work Glyn, excellent so far :y

As and when he's able to send me more pictures of his progress, I'll upload them :)

I'll take your 7 and raise you another 14!!!! 21 visible layers of paint on the bumper of the LC  :o :o It took 3 days to sand it back was a total nitemare. However once you put the first coat of primer on it makes it all so worth while. Looking like a excellent job by the way.

Update...

Unfortunately the etch primer has reacted with the silver paint, so has had to be flatted down again and re-primed with U-POL High Build primer :(

Luckily, this has done the trick :)

This is the first coats applied, ready for the main spray  :)

And this is the first of the topcoats  :) :) :) :)

Now this is starting to look bloody awesome!

Again, great work Glyn :y

Oh yes! Although I've not seen it in the flesh since I dropped it off  :(

Looking forward to picking it up when it's finished :)

Just need to print off how to remove the bumper off my car and then try to refit it!  Should be fun  ;D ;D ;D ;D

GOD DAM FLAMING WEATHER!!!! Bumper been a bit of a pain... well that was the easy bit sanding down except the vents in lower section lost tops off my knukles nearly & fingers red raw...
im use to working in a body shop with all the tools but unable to use 2 of my mates garages to doit due to cars sat in the way because even they are having issues with the weather!
So everything has been done by hand, (oh i miss my DA sander), the fastdry rattlecan etch/filler primers/flexi stonechip have not taken 15mins touch dry sand in 1hr!! was sandable in 4hrs & looked great before topcoats but they have actually taken more like 24/36hours!!
Because of the weather..  :(  the 1st topcoat looked great but after leaving it for 36hrs in a couple of spots the filler primer has sunk & a few small pinhole stonechips have appeared..!!! Crap!!!
a couple wont be visable when fitted to car (under the no plate in mouth area) but going to leave it till tonight sat in this short amount of sun thats poking threw to make sure its well & truely hardened off before i sandit again!!
but as dave has said it will be worth it in the end, will keep sending him images as i carry on but due to work atmo going to be latenight sanding again tonight  :-\ or a beer....
