General Discussion Area / Turning cold
« on: 25 October 2012, 21:38:31 »
They have forecast an Arctic blast starting tomorrow for a few days, with snow in Scotland and maybe also in the north.

So make sure you are ready for winter and your car anti-freeze is at full strength.

General Discussion Area / Perspective
« on: 20 October 2012, 16:31:16 »
Jim O'Neil of Goldman Sachs spoke at the DT business conference on Thursday and said this which I thought was very interesting:

“It’s not really 'what about the [US] fiscal cliff', or whether Greece will survive in the eurozone or not. It’s what is going on in China, Brazil, Russia, India, and some of these other nations that are becoming so important to us as well."

"Last year China’s growing economy created the equivalent of a new Greece every three months, he said. Together the BRICs – Brazil, Russia India and China – created the equivalent of a new Italy, the world’s eighth biggest economy, in just 12 months."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/festival-of-business/9620479/Accuracy-of-UK-GDP-data-worse-than-China-says-Jim-ONeill.html

This puts the Eurozone into its real economic perspective and why we should be concentrating on the BRIC counties to grow our economy.

Only problem is that with Heathrow's limited runway capacity and our only international hub, doesn't fly very often to these countries.  :o :o :o

If the UK concentrates on exporting to the BRIC countries, I don't think we will have a problem when the time comes to tell Van Rumpuy and Barasso to stick the EU where the sun doesn't shine.  :y :y :y

General Discussion Area / Don't let them get away with it again!
« on: 19 October 2012, 18:42:56 »
Remember the MP's expenses scandal. When it has never really gone away.

One of the newsletters I subscribe to is a pro-democracy pressure group, called Unlock Democracy. They have made a request under the freedom on information act for information of MP's renting houses out but STILL claiming expenses for them. This has been refused on security grounds. They are now collecting signatures for a letter they are going to present to him next Wednesday. Obviously the more signatures the more pressure.

The biggest part of the expenses scandal last time was the obstruction and cover up by the Speaker of the House, looks like this one is just as bad.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

General Discussion Area / Record employment
« on: 17 October 2012, 22:21:27 »
The good news is that a record number of people are now employed in the UK. The bad news is that the number of full time jobs has decreased and the number of part time has increased. This trend of more part time jobs is not only happening here but in the US as well. There has also been an increase in the number of self-employed but there are no figures for how many hours on average they work. I have heard that Job Centres are forcing people that get casual work to register as self employed and they then save paying the job seekers allowance in gaps between jobs!  :o :o :o

Now some bad news. I'm sure many of you are aware that from the 1st October that new pension rules apply for large companies having to enroll employees into a pension scheme. They initially have to contribute 1% of the employees pay with this increasing to 3% by 2016. Over this time the size of companies that have to enroll employees will get progressively smaller until they all have to. Now the big employers have found a loop hole and a way to save money. If they pay an employee less than £7425 per annum, they don't have to enroll them into a pension scheme, which will eventually save them 3%. Now for companies that employ large numbers of low paid workers in the service sector, like the big supermarkets 3% of the payroll is about £100m, so expect to see far fewer full time jobs and many more part time in these service sectors in the future.  ::) ::) ::)

Employees also have to make a contribution. This will mean more money going into saving, when at the moment we need people to be spending that money to get some economic growth!  :o :o :o

Why did Labour bring in this new pension scheme? Because Gordon Brown's 1997 £5bn a year pension grab, changed the UK from Europe's best funded pension system into the worst!  >:( >:( >:(

Personally, since then I have stopped putting any money into a pension as to me the small tax savings are are not worth letting the Government having control over the rules for this money. I decided it was better to put the money into savings. Being forced to buy an anunity at some point with the money is highly dependent upon the income from this. At the moment they are at record lows, with no recovery expected anytime soon. You can get similar returns with dividends from equities and your family get the money when you die, rather than an insurance company.

General Discussion Area / Not nice people
« on: 17 October 2012, 21:46:46 »
There was an in-depth interview with Nigel Farge on the RT channel "Capital Account" program which can be viewed on the RT website using the link below. It is well worth viewing Nigel Farge and UKIP get much more air time on US TV and has a massive following there. He says that Americans are shocked when he explains that 75% of UK laws are from the EU and are forced upon us by people we cannot vote for.

http://rt.com/programs/capital-account/nigel-farage-ukip-us/

But the three most interesting points were:

1. There is a growing and accelerating gap between Germany and France economically in the Eurozone, which is going to end in tears for France.

2. With Merkel, Barosso, Van Rumpuy and the EU commission "the project" is the most important thing and getting to the end game of the EU ruling Europe. The problems with the PIIGS economies and the population suffering with business bankruptcies and unemployment are incidental and they don't care.

3. He was asked after a parliamentary heated debate that often government MPs will then have a beer with the opposition. Does he go for a beer with Van Rumpuy, Barosso or any EU commissioners, he said no and he wouldn't want to as they are: "Bad people and also very dangerous people, who want to squash democracies to make their European superstate".

Well worth watching. Don't expect to find any interviews on Nigel Farge or UKIP on the BBC and it would probably affect the millions of pounds they get in EU grants.  >:( >:( >:(

Vote UKIP.

General Discussion Area / Hen pecked President
« on: 14 October 2012, 16:58:32 »
Looks like Hollande is being hen pecked by his ex partner and mistress, along with the leaders of the French Socialist and Green parties and he has really annoyed Merkel where he has joined the Latin camp and arranging exclusive meetings between them so he can plot against Germany and the other Northern European Eurozone country. It is always dangerous game to bite the hand that feeds.  ::) ::) ::)

Only in France could a President have such a tangled personal and political life with the women.  ;) :D :D

He has the lowest rating of any President, it seems like the French like everybody except who they have elected to power.  ;D ;D ;D He is meant to be such a weak person, looking for compromises that he never gets much done. So his only claim to fame might be the 75% tax rate and boosting the UK and Swiss economies where many of the rich are now moving here. :o :o :o Thank you Hollande for boosting the UK economy.  :y :y :y

Danny Kent won his first Moto3 race in Japan to day, so congratulations to him and may he have many more wins.  :y :y :y

Cal Crutchlow was not as lucky where he ran out of fuel on the last lap while in 4th place and battling for 3th!  :o :o :o

Over 1000 documents have now been released on Lance Armstrong's doping.

I always enjoyed watching him compete in the Tour de France and always beleived he was clean. So it is sad to see such overwhelming evidence that he cheated, including paying off officials with $100,000 in 2001 when he failed an EPO test!

General Discussion Area / Al-Qaeda and forest fires
« on: 05 October 2012, 16:41:44 »
A Russian intelligence report has highlighted that Al Qaeda is responsible for a significant number of forest fires in Europe as this is one of a number of low cost, low technology terrorist actions in their damage through "A Thousand Cuts" strategy.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

This year Spain has had a record number of forest fires.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/al-qaeda/9585098/Al-Qaeda-blamed-for-Europe-wide-forest-fires.html

What is the solution as it is very difficult to catch people carry out these actions?

General Discussion Area / Ofgem - Power black outs by 2015-16
« on: 05 October 2012, 16:29:01 »
An OFGEM report today has warned of power blackouts by 2015-2016 as there will be only 4% spare capacity where all coal and oil fired power stations will have to close by then under EU regulations. >:( >:( >:( >:( Why is Germany opening new coal fired power stations then, where they have found wind turbines don't work, but we are shutting ours?  >:( >:( >:( >:(

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/9589213/Britain-faces-risk-of-blackouts-warns-Ofgem.html

The reason I say it will happen in the title, where the report says might happen, is that lump of green slime Ed Davey stating: “Security of electricity supply is of critical importance to the health of the economy and the smooth functioning of our daily lives. That is why the Government is reforming the electricity market to deliver secure, clean and affordable electricity,”  >:( >:( >:( >:(

So in the winter of 2015, during an Arctic ridge of high pressure with no winds, and exceptionally cold temperatures, you now know what is going to happen.  >:( >:( >:( >:(
