General Car Chat / Windscreen Repair Kits
« on: 07 March 2012, 14:47:55 »
I have got a stone chip on my windscreen on which it will fail the MOT, which is due next week. My insurance has a £25 excess for chip repairs and is also due for renewal next week and as the company I'm currently with have quoted £251 for my renewal, this being about £100 less than I can find anywhere else, I'm reluctant to risk a premium rise due to a claim.

Has anybody on here had any experience of using any of the kits like this?

My next door neighbour's name is Fred Hichens, his granddad is Robert Hichens who was the helmsman on the Titanic when it hit the iceberg.

He is going to the Meridian studios with his mum on Friday for an interview as part of the TV coverage of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic on April the 12th.

At the end of the US inquiry into the sinking Robert Hichen's reputation was in tatters as a result of his actions in control of lifeboat 6.

If you are ill on holiday from October it will no longer count as part of your annual holiday. It is estimated it will cost UK industry at least £100m in costs.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Sounds like most UK workers have now doubled their annual leave to 8 weeks, with the appropriate sick notes of course.  ::) ::) ::)

Only another 42.5 weeks to lose and we will all only have to work as often as those on the dole. :o :o :o

« on: 29 February 2012, 21:05:30 »
The new Jag XF Sportsbrake Estate looks like a real load carrier and a miggy replacement either new for those with deep pockets as £32k or in 5 years plus+, secondhand when a reasonable price.  :y :y :y :y

General Car Chat / European Low Emission Zones
« on: 26 February 2012, 21:11:23 »
This is new to me.  ::)

32 cities now have low emission zones where you must display the appropriate sticker or get a €40 on-the-spot fine.  :o :o :o

There are also some low emission cities in Italy.

EU finance meeting tomorrow to sign off second Greek bailout has been called off. Luxembourg PM has said that Greece has not done enough to guarantee the austerity measures.  :o :o

But could this DT article be the real reason, why Greece never gets any money?   ::) ::)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/greece/9079430/Greece-wont-see-a-cent-of-the-great-bail-out.html

How are the Greek people coping, where 40% of businesses have gone under since 2009 and 50% of SMEs can't afford to pay their employees? According to this article, much better than you might expect :y and probably better than we would in the same circumstances as a large percentage own agricultural land! ::)

I see the breakwit Argentinian Tinpot President is going to tell her mummy (the UN) all about us (the beastly British) as she only likes little girls games, where we like men's games and are playing with our Typhoons, Type 45 destroyers, and the odd hunter killer nuclear submarine. Like all bad neighbours that overlook our garden, if she doesn't like it ..... off.  :y :y :y :y

General Discussion Area / It tough having to get by on $150m a year!
« on: 07 February 2012, 23:21:14 »
No wonder the little sh*t Sarkozy is tying to cling to office with all the tenacity of of a leech stuck to human skin. He spends $150m of public money, per year, on himself and his families personal comforts.

When he gets voted out in April coming 3rd in the first round of votes or if he is lucky making it to the second round in May before losing, how is he going to keep Carla in the comfort of all of those presidential perks she has come to expect?

I guess Carla will have to have an advert in the local rag's friendship section in June, along the lines:

Bored ex-model, singer and housewife, looking for billionaire, height, looks, age and personality not important as you can see from my previous. For friendship and maybe more when aboard your private jet, yacht or after those expensive papering shopping trips.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

No roth like a woman scorned!  :o

Chris Huhne and his ex-wife have both been charged with perverting the course of justice.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-16866127

Windbag Huhne claims all a terrible misunderstanding and will stand down while he clears his name!  ::)

I yet to hear any MP not make a similar statement before they have been convicted, such are the standards in political life. It will be a first if he is innocent and found innocent as I've never known an MP once charged not to get convicted.

John Stonehouse was so stupid, he didn't realize you are meant to get your conviction, before you go to Australia.  ;D ;D ;D

Very interesting article on how the whole manufacturing and supply infrastructure is so advanced in Asia compared with USA and Europe.

It puts into prospective, the EU and UK drive on workers rights like male maternity rights, equality laws and family / work life balance etc. I suspect with these drive up industry costs political programs, many more people are going to have a much improved family life where they get to spend 24 hours a day with their families.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

We might not like the financial services industry much, but London is the worlds leading global financial centre and Cameron was right to use the veto to protect what is becoming an increasing vital industry for this country and to try and get more Chinese business. As apart from that and some very specialized centres of engineering excellence (world class) like Rolls Royce aero engines, F1 and auto engineering design, Arm semiconductors I can't see too much on the horizon.

We are still world class in software engineering, but that is also in decline in terms of the UK's global market share and will continue to do so, shortages of engineers and there are cheaper better places with many available high quality engineers. Fastest growing countries for IT and software development in Europe are in the Eastern European countries.

How is Europe and particularly the UK going to turn this around?

General Discussion Area / Welfare Cap
« on: 21 January 2012, 20:18:15 »
The Government is currently passing a new bill on welfare through Parliament at the moment, part of this is to limit all welfare payments to a maximum of £26,000pa.  :y

Ian Duncan-Smith admins there are a number of benefit claimants with large families, especially in London, who get more than £100,000pa. He say the new measures will be liberating for them as they can now get an average wage job, without a big decrease in benefits, which is trapping them from doing this.

This I think is a reasonable comment and it shows how far our benefits system is devoid from the realities of the average hard working family.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

But then you get that left wing Limpdem tw*t Simon Hughes, who's comment "We cannot allow families to be unjustifiably and retrospectively penalised and left with not enough money to stay in their homes and be literally forced onto the street".

So it's alright then that families that have been pushed over the financial edge, due to NIC, VAT and council tax rises and had their houses repossessed and are out on the street, as long as they should continue to be good tax payers and fund the £100,000+ benefit claimants.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

With tw*ts like him and all the other do gooders in Parliament, you can see why welfare is where it is, and is by far the Governments biggest bill. That's why for the average earning taxpayer in this country are typically paying 45-50% of what their economic activity earns in taxes and suffering as a consequence.  >:( >:( >:(
