I have used these before:

http://www.hpicheck.com/newfrontend/index.jsp

Not mega cheap but a good service. Done a check on my wifes veccie & it showed an interest by a finance company - rang the number on the result sheet & the company concerned sent a letter confirming no outstanding finance. Well worth the peace of mind !

unless you 'sell' the car you're interested in, do the hpi, then cancel auction.

But we possibly couldn't condone that... ;)

Nice idea!  ;)

Just did a basic data check on RAC, all checks out with what he said in terms of last ownership. He also says he has a cash recipt from were he bought it.

I contacted him this evening about viewing the car, no reply yet. But hopefully should get a responce tomorrow.

the text based one is under scrutiny as far as i am concerned.

i did a check on a vehicle i knew had been written off.

the result?

clean as a whistle!!!!  :o

how long ago was written off?

I might use the RAC...

I did a quick data check, and its last owner change matchs what the owner says. He also says he has a cash recipt from the garage he bought it from.

HPi had it, but another cheaper company didnt.

I am in discussions with the text service at the moment, as we are considering using them as an affiliate, but if the info isnt acurate, then theres no point.

I bought my 94 omega last year with 92K showingon the clock. Wasn't convinced on a car that age so spent £42 on HPI. Everything came back as kosher whilst I was still on the phone to them, backed up with documentation 2 days later. Worth it in my opinion.(and that was just on a £900 car)
