General Car Chat / Re: What pair of cars, if you were a bit richer

Having just come out of a 2.7 diesel S-Type I can confirm the engine is superb and is a great motorway muncher.

My choice would be a mid noughties XJ-R as choice 1 and possibly a Mitsubishi GTO as second choice - I'd get both for less than £20k so I'd spend the other £20k on wine women and song  ;D

Newbie Welcome Area / Have come back to the fold....
« on: 25 October 2016, 21:13:51 »
When I was last here I had a 51 plate 2.6 MV6 auto which I maintained myself doing the timing belt, oil cooler, exhaust and alternator.  Foolishly I got rid of it in favour of a Peugeot 407 Coupe which then morphed onto a 3.5l Shogun before progressing or re-gressing to a 2.7l diesel S-Type.

The S-Type is a great car, even the engine is superb if you're doing the miles but alas it has a DPF which has given me all sorts of expensive problems.  It was fine while I was slecking back and forth to London each week but pootling around locally didn't do it much good.  Having just cost me a grand to have a new turbo fitted amongst other things, I decided to cut my losses and get rid.

What to buy in its place?  None of the boring cars of today (by boring I mean hey all look pretty much the same) floated my boat until I started looking and the Omega popped up as a possible.

So I've ended up with an 02 2.2 Sport with a great history, some scabs on the rear whel arches to sort and a new driver seat to source due to it being worn ( think it was probably previously owned by a rather portly gentleman who struggled to enter and exit the car as the door seal is worn from rubbing) but it's had a head refurb, new timing belt and water pump, recent full service and 12 months ticket with the only avisory being a tyre and needing new front disks - £750

Sorry if I sound dense but I've just returnd to the world of Omegas from an S-Type oil burner.  This socket that you're talking about, does this allow connection of any of the Parrot interfaces and in particular the MKi9200?

Omega General Help / Rear Window
« on: 16 December 2012, 16:01:49 »
Some nice person full of xmas cheer (aka b.stard)  put the rear drivers side window in on my miggy last night.  I've sourced a replacement and have so far managed to get the door card off and and the carrier that's bonded to the glass out however, I'm unsure how to get the side channels out or for that matter how to get the new one in.  Any hints, tips or instructions would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Col

Forgot to say, it's the one that goes up and down not the quarter light  :(

Omega General Help / Re: Oil Cooler Pipes
« on: 17 May 2012, 21:40:29 »
Been there done that  >:( I couldn't work out how to get the engine mount off - managed to undo 3 of the bolts holding the mount to the engine but couldn't get to the 4th so crowsfoot socket is still in mount, luckily it doesn't rattle  ;D Did manage to get one of the oil pipe unions undone with an open ended spanner.  Good luck with yours

Had a 750 BMW that was approaching 123456 so went out of a little run to get to that point so I could take a photo, as I was pulling over to stop to take said photo, it rolled over to 123457.....break  ;D

Can second Gliptone, used it on Bimmers and Jags and Suite indoors and definitely give you that new leather smell

Sorry to resurrect this, I've done about 100miles and everything appears fine however, I've just checked the levels which are all fine but I noticed that there was some oil in the coolant tank, no mayo.  Now the oil on the dipstick is nice and clean as I did an oil change when I put it all back together. The small amount of oil in the coolant tank is as black as your hat, the same colour as the old oil I drained out of the sump.  My question is and I hope the answer is what I think it is, is it likely just to be residual oil from the oil cooler failure?  I did loads of flushing but I did notice some small globs of mayo when I did the final fill with antifreeze and decided I'd give it a couple of weeks of running and then drain down and flush again to finally clear them out.  I notice that there aren't any floating in the coolant tank at the moment.

I shall run for a few more days and see what's what.

Cheers Col
