looks like i need some decent anti spam software for my mum, for windows mail on windows 7.  has to have a whitelist option i.e. only allow in mail from known senders, she is getting too old for me to trust her to always spot scams now.  can anyone recommend something? free would be nice .

My old computer science teacher said the best anti-spam/virus kit is the one coming out tomorrow. Scammers are always one step ahead, the best thing to avoid this, is don't open spam emails, they know they are being opened, so if you dont open them they will clear you off the list. Also white listing as you said. You can only manage these things, never completely stop it. Maybe check msdn forums and see what latest A/S  software for outlook is.
