Well, I have an OE battery securing plate thingy winging it's way to me at some point via Omegod (cheers mate). But really want to chuck it in for MOT tomorrow. Got exhaust pasted up (checking results tomorrow) and fixed fog lights. So was just the battery clamp.

Now I've been wanting an excuse to buy a tap and die set recently 

Lining it up and held in place with vice grips...


Using a die to run threads all down the, erm, shaft  ..............


Finished product with excess ends sawn off...



As mentioned really want the OE plate there as that's so much easier but the bolt needs drilling out (tried molies but no budge) and I really need to invest in some decent metal bits.

Now.... to put the tap n die set to good use

Absolutely right - got one of these on my TR (Original equipment).  As said it fits along front corner of battery, pulling battery down and back to clamp it.  The way you have fitted your's is incorrect and potentially insecure - MOT tester may well fail it

As you have refitted the battery blanket I expect you will get away with it at MOT so long as the tester is having a good day

TBH it fits and is holding down the battery so who knows. Let's see what they make of it at the MOT station.

As others have said if you weed out the crap, of which there are lots. There is good stuff.

Seen GS oil and filter changes is useful, as I plan to begin that soon myself.

Also been toying with idea of a Classic late 80's Merc as future toy, something like 1989 420SE classic S Class. Some great resources on YouTube, brake pad changes front and rear. Rear setup is similar to Omega, but better wear sensor design. Front pads, very similar to rear omega setup. Along with oil changes and such, very useful videos.

I have a theory that, if they either can't be @rsed or aren't suitably literate in non-text-speak to describe a procedure in words, with a few pictures, there's little to be learned from watching someone arsing something up while his retard mate records it on video, except for the entertainment value, that is.

No need for a Die set, just put a Nut on the threaded rod before you cut above it, tidy up with file or paper, any threaded part that gets offended gets repaired when you remove the Nut.

I suspect hes had to thread a lot more of the rod as its not been installed properly (e.g. over the diagnonal of the battery)

....as there wasn't enough threaded rod to wind the nut on to 

re installation.... even if i'd have fitted it quote ''properly'' unquote, i'd have still had to create a thread.

if I need to put it as taxi al says ill just replace rods with tent hooks as that's essentially what they are

If you want it you can have the battery clamp and bolt off my dead DTi.

Fit a different length battery and use another hole if you can't get that bolt out

I spent an hour and a half drilling then bending a piece of steel lengthways to the correct angle to make a new battery clamp for my transit last year - against the clock cos it was booked in for MOT 

Got in van, and found the original in the door pocket.

Drilled mine out and fitted a smaller bolt through the hole with a nut on it .. job jobbed .
