Omega General Help / 2.6 / 3.2 Alternator
« on: 16 February 2016, 19:58:58 »
Evening!

Alternator has died (well rectifier I think as it's overcharging) on the new 3.2, I'll be refurbishing it at some point but to get the car useable again is the alternator off a 2.6 Elite the same as the one on a 3.2 Elite.... Not had chance to check the units part no's etc yet hence the question!

One on the 2.6 was a new / factory refurbished unit from VX about 18 months ago so worth fitting if the same.

Omega General Help / Suspension options
« on: 03 February 2016, 21:21:25 »
For those who drive cars with lowered / stiffened suspension, what would your thoughts be on the following setup?

Standard ride height KYB rear springs with spring assistors, MV6 LSC front springs and b4's all round + the obligatory poly bushes front and rear on a 3.2 Saloon with a 80 - 100 Litre LPG tank.

I know it won't be in the same league as my 3.2 with Eibachs, B4's, polys etc etc but need to consider a greater ride height on the project car to support the weight of equipment I can end up carrying in the boot as well as the LPG tank weight.

Another option would be Police spec springs but I don't know much about ride heights etc of them as well as actually finding any!

Omega General Help / Painting / refinishing sunroof frame

Facelift of course.  ::)

Has anyone ever refurbished these successfully? Appreciate the best way to do it would be to remove it (not 100% what that involves) and sand it down and do the full job but wondered if anyone had done any different?

I think MDTM repainted one in situ way back.

General Car Chat / So what replacement car do you buy?
« on: 13 December 2015, 11:04:34 »
As you can no longer obtain a '52 or later 2.6 or 3.2 Elite in acceptable condition what do you buy instead?

By acceptable I mean, little or no rust on the rear arches, at least four months MOT, no major faults (ie. enough to stop you driving the car home, minor work such as crank sensor or tyres is ok) and generally looked after.

So, what is there for less than £2.5K? Vehicle needs to be comfy and as capable as an Omega as it will do around 40K a year. Home maintenance is a must to keep costs down as well.

Oh and I'm not the greatest fan of FWD or Manual gearboxes.
