Another td chip thread...
« on: 13 October 2014, 15:33:19 »

I have just opened up ecu's on both my old chipped pfl manual td and my new facelift td so I could see if I could pull the chip out my old and into the new.

Chip no. on the chipped chip is (I think, my memory is poor and the photo I took is grainy) 342??... And the "new" car chip no. is 1 037 355 972 / 0 281 001 427 on the one that gets swapped. Two questions,

1) who do I speak to to get a socket sioldered on (local to cambridge/peterborough (maybe for a 12 pack of beers??)

2) can I use the chip I have or do I need to buy a new one?

Marcus.

1) any local electronics repair place (try small, independent TV repair shops)

2) Assume you've bought a map and have a programmer then? If so, worth taking copy of existing map before overwriting. Personally, I'd use a new chip, and carry the original around in case an unexpected problem occurs...  ...some of these ebay maps are absolutely awful.

No that sounds expensive!... i was under the impression that there's four different chips depending on what the numbers on the chip are.. Have I got that right?
If I needed a different chip I was going to drop a PM to the guy I brought the last one off. Although Id hope that I could save £40 and use the one I've already got..

Wil try local electrical places then  :y

There are lots of different maps.

The cost of a blank chip is probably around £5-10 (gone up a bit recently, I guess not as common as they once were)

I think the OP is asking whether the Old Chip from He's PFL will fit into His new FL?, rather than copying the Map from it.?

That's what I meant haha!

Old td; manual, on an N plate,
New td; manual, on a V plate.

Will check the years when I get home as can't remember off the top of my head  ::)

N reg will be 1996, so borderline. Did it have a MAF? Do you still have old ECU, if so, are last 4 digits 214?

Yep.. It is indeed a '96  :y no AFM on that one, but there is one on the new one... On that, I thought they'd be different but thought I'd ask for sure lol. As for the digits 214... Possibly, haha! Is that on the ecu casing or the actual chip itself?

ECU Casing, theres a Blue or White lable from memory with the Boosh ECU number on there, although its been a while.

Found a old pic if it helps, the ECU on the left was from an Omega TD's, N reg with no Maf. last Digits 214.

Forget the one on the right thats from a BM TDSE.
