Hi all gona do my oil cooler soon as precaution, when I can find one cheap. My question is can I fit a aftermarket one and just block it off where the original one goes. Have seen on flee bay I could re route it to the rads sum how or would sticking to original be best??? P.s took ex boss for a blast yesterday who drives a 3.2 Audi, absolutely loved the drive go omegas lol

Why would you want to - an water cooled oil cooler is about the best you can get

ive had issues with oil in water on my car and thought about this route uswell
as i cant be sure its definitly the oil cooler
as a temp measure cant you just bypass the oil cooler for a short period ( and if yes for how long )
this would determine wether the oil cooler has failed

Leave as is. If there's a problem with a leaking water/oil cooler fix it as GM designed. The oil/water heat exchanger is a two way thing, it helps get water temp up quicker from cold as well as cooling the oil as the car gets to temp.

To bypass the oil cooler you would need to make a U shaped piece of steel pipe to route the oil from one tapping just above the oil filter and feed it back into the other one.

Given how poor the access is in that area it would be less work to fit a new oil cooler.

The Omega doesn't have an oil temperature gauge so difficult to judge how hot the oil normally gets or what effect running without one would have  :-/

Neither did a Senator, but it had an air to oil cooler, that said, it also had a thermostat built into the system (somewhere - can't remember where now  :-/)

Relocate the oil cooler?  My personal opinion is also don't do it! 

Although oil coolers do sometimes fail, the vast majority of Omegas go through their entire life without suffering any such problems.  So why mess about with something that works fine and will probably never be an issue?

Likewise, a properly replaced Vx oil cooler running on the correct coolant mix is very unlikely to fail a second time during the life of the car.

I think the waxstat in those can be faulty even when new but at least you can touch the oil cooler to see if the stat is opening ok. Never had a problem with mine though.

have done this before - and yes it works well.

but it's not for those who are attached to their air-con, as the pipes need to share the same position as the air-con compressor.
