As the opposite of what has pissed me off...

Ordered a very expensive USB charger from the Gay of E at 7pm (Sunday).  Arrived by noon today (Monday).  Suitably impressed.

Where I keep my keys acts like a faraday cage.  So no additional hassle for me.  Not that our 2 are new enough to attract those types of gangs.

Only one is keyless entry, but both are keyless start, so presumably both vulnerable to relay attacks (once physical entry acquired to the non keyless entry one).

But I don't really consider this any more vulnerable than any other system:
Keys only - easily picked or jimmied.
Rolling code remote fob - long broken and decrypted on most systems, including VAG and GM
Transponder immobilisation - still vulnerable to replay attacks

Also, immobilisation was never secure - a few years ago when ze Germans were desirable, the crocks just carried around engine ECUs with the immobiliser programmed out.

It's always going to be a game of cat & mouse between the manufacturers* and the shitheads of society.  And as Viral Jim says, there are always ways of getting into a car and driving it away which involve personal safety issues.

*well, the OE manufacturers of the security systems, rather than the car manufacturers who I suspect just build the software on the OE hardware, and that software is probably more for integration than core security?

Acquired 2 freebie logo puddle lights, so fitted them. ………

So you have pretty little Jaguar logo lights illuminating the kerb when you exit the car now then.  :y
Finally, I took a photo, just for you!

Looks a decent, clear projection.  :y  I looked up the price of my factory fit lights and the price is err….. scary.  :o
The usual ones I buy are about a fiver a pair, but tend to burn through the mask after a couple of years.  These ones were freebies from that nice Mr Bezos, so no idea on price, be interesting to see if they last better.

Have had my 3rd temp filling in the same tooth in one day, dentists are added to the list of people who have pissed me off today.  That's the 5th or 6th temp filling in that tooth since October when the 40+ year old one fell out.

For performance, the 3.0l is much better than the 3.2.  The 3.2 (and its sister, the god awful 2.6) are poor substitutes for the 3.0 and 2.5.

If you're prepared to do a lot of work, the 3.2 might have potential, either with forced induction or doing something about the stupidly low CR

Omega General Help / Re: Guess what? - An Oil question!
« on: 02 February 2024, 18:29:17 »
yes i have noticed that the omega does tend to produce mayo but luckily due to the design it collects up in the (removeable) filler neck so easy to clean out now and again. not helped with mine with short journeys but it has had gm oil in for the last 3 changes.  be nice to know if other oils are better / worse in this matter .ive heard that castrol is bad ?.
mannol will be my next choice especialky at around £45 for 20l
The mayo also tends to form in the breather system as well.  Hence needing to keep away from oils that are susceptible

Omega General Help / Re: Hvac on Defrost only and whine sound
« on: 02 February 2024, 18:27:35 »
I would imagine it will just be the vac lines on the control knobs, so only need to remove the centre console, which is straightforward.

And when you put it back together, don't ram it in when clearly it isn't wanting to sit right ;)

Well... a quick rummage in the book of lies suggests that it is indeed a vacuum control system  :o
Phew, I'm not going bonkers....
