General Car Chat / Fuel tank injector cleaner / carb cleaner - Same stuff ?

I was minding my own business in shops the other day and I noticed that the petrol additive for cleaning injectors (STP brand I think) had two flavours, one was for "Suitable for Fuel injection" engines the other for "carburetor" based engines.

When I examined the bottles BOTH appeared to have the SAME red looking liquid, same shade and appeared same viscosity ( well, shook both bottles and appeared identical ! So not that scientific !)

The information and blurb on bottles was identical other than one making the reference to Injectors.

One however was HALF PRICE !  (The carburetor one) and so the thought occurred that would it matter which one I used ?

Also I guess, is it worth using the stuff at all ???????

Thoughts ????

(There was a different 3rd one for Diesel so not mixed up with that one !!!)

Omega General Help / Replacing main battery

Looks like need to treat her to new main battery.

What is the recommended process for removal and fitting ?

I have a MFL 2.5V6 CDX on a V plate.  Looks like there is a 72Ah one same dimensions  :y

Am I correct that process is:

  • Turn ignition off and remove key
  • disconnect negative within 15 sec
  • then disconnect positive and make cuppa
  • remove old and locate new battery connecting positive terminal first then negative
  • enter radio code and start car as normal

I read somewhere about needing to reset key immobiliser and windows ???? Or is this not necessary ?

Doing some digging about, are Delphi the Manufacture of OEM A/C Condensers for GM ??????  ???  (found this pic below).

They do seemed to be a little more expensive to buy than cheaper branded ones (NRF or BOLK), but were not as extortionate as Vauxhall when I called them today  :'()  Good job I was sitting ! :D

Omega General Help / Suspect A/C Condenser Faulty - Easy to do, any recommended make ?

Hi all,

Air con now stopped again, after regas a couple weeks ago.  I therefore started to supect something more than the HP and LP valves (which have been done  :y)

Anyhow, as I had the front grille off (to sort washer bottle sensor) I notice this on the A/C condenser/rad.  I assume this is why its now stopped !! 

Green A/C Dye leak appears quite noticeable on rhs at the bottom to middle section.

Are they easy to change ?  and are there any particular makes / suppliers to go for ?  Original GM one ?

I assumed best get new drier at same time ?

What would be cost to get all sorted ?

Just treated the old girl to its 6 monthly Auto Glym Super Resin Polish, finished of this time with the Extra Gloss Protection. 

She does polish up nice  :y

Just gotta sort AC Condenser out  :-[ (Help if in Cheshire/Wirral  ;))

General Car Chat / VW Touran 2.0 TDi Sport - Cruise control not work now :(

Hi,

Went to drive the wifes Touran (05 Plate 2.0 TDI Sport DSG) and the cruise control not work  :(

Light on dash should come on when turn switch on indicator stalk to on, and NO light !!  It has done this once a while ago, but a turn engine off and on and all Ok !

Its not playing ball at all now. 

Usual suspects are:

  • Brake light switch - I assume this is OK as brake lights works !
  • Indicator stalk switch contacts not working - I found a guide on how to take apart and clean - This is now done and no difference  :'(
  • Fuse 7 in engine bay is part of cruise control - This fuse is fine
  • Fuse 4 in cabin also claimed to be same part of cruise control - NO FUSE here - never was ! Assume engine bay Fuse 7 is the one and is fine

Maybe common issue of Golf Mk 5 and Golf Plus as share much DNA !

One suggestion is new indicator/cruise stalk.   I have done this my Dads Face Lift Omega (Desmond - CD model to retro fit Cruise  :y).  Easy as not need to remove the steering wheel, but I can't seemed to find if the same applies for Touran.  I don't fancy removing the wheel and airbag in face  :-[

Any thoughts ?

Hi.

I have a nice new 5l sealed bottle the GM 10W/40.  Purchased from reputable flea bay seller/garage (I assume !). 

Holograms check out and label identical to the previous 5l bottle I still have on garage shelf ! so no reason to suspect counterfeit (I did see subtle label difference in other ones advertised so I steered clear of them in case they were counterfeit !

Anyhow, I notice date stamp on the container is 28/01/2014.  :o

Question:  Is the oil out of date ?  Is it OK to use ? ???

Contain sealed up (perhaps a bit dusty !)

Big thanks to Daz following my earlier post   :y

New Genuine GM Rocker cover gaskets fitted, both sides  :y (and new O ring bolts !) And car running sweet.

Good for another 14 years or 59k mls !!!!!

Thanks again Daz for your time, especially at the short notice and on a Friday night.

A true gent and recommended.  :y

Hi all,

I suspect I have a slight oil residue coming from LHS of drivers side V6 bank.  Looks like right on edge of the black rocker cover.

I suspect rocker cover gasket.

Is this a concern in short term ? 

Is it common ?

Is it simple fix ?

General Discussion Area / Is it worth using spray on underseals to top up protection ?

    I have noticed there are a few 'spray on' underseal products about.

    Since my baby is always kept in the garage in dry (kept under her warm Duvet ;)), is it worth giving the underside a bit of TLC ?

    • Anybody used any of the spray on underseals ?
    • Is it worth doing just really to 'Keep on top of things and keep the underside protection up to scratch ?
    • Anybody recommend any brands / particular stuff ?

    I only ask since I have just had the arches and door sorted, they wax oiled the wheel arches so look brand new.  Thought I may therefore give the whole underside a spray if thought worth it ?

    Thoughts welcome and merry chrismas to all  :y

Omega General Help / Heated seat (sorry another question !, but this is for Cloth Trim seat !)

Hi all,

A while ago I got a bit of localised very hot spot on the drivers seat and smell  >:(

My deductions are heated seat element is buggered.

It is a Mini Facelift 2.5V6 CDX.  I have read that they are easiy"er" to do ? (noticed post for leather seats which sounded a like surgery was required ?)

  • Are they simple to repair wthout major surgery for a Cloth Trim seat ?
  • Can get the replacement elements ?

If its major surgery, then I shall leave it (not used them for a year or two now since the hot posterior eppisode at the traffic lights  :D ) as not dared to turn on since  :-\

Hi all,

Following on from my earlier pics http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=127030.0 :y following my newly treated and painted wheel arches and rear doors (caught early hopefully to avoid the rot  :y), below is the new newly proper leather covered handbrake and Gearstick Gaiters from the local custom trim specialists opposite where I work  :y

They have done a fantastic job and the trim match is superb.

Well happy.  My car is like new with nice smell of leather :D

Omega General Help / How do remove Handbrake Gaiter - Mini Facelift V6 CDX

Hi.

Getting Gaiters re-done in soft leather  :D

How does the Handbrake one remove ?  Looks like there are a few plastic clips, but do any screws need to be removed from the centre console as its not coming away easilly from the console  ;D  (it is the original GM one). 

A few screws are present holding I assume the black felt console cubby hole liner in, but does this need to be unscrewed and lifted to remove gaiter ?

I didn't want to wrestle too much with it in case I broke something  >:(
