Yeah, had to be out and about for work today testing stuff, which is unusual for me.
Bloody cold, offset slightly by a bacon butty from the Hog's back cafe.  :P

Lockdowns suppress the virus temporarily, but cannot be part of a permanent solution, and if the virus had originated in the US, UK, Australia or anywhere else in the democratic free world, I don't believe any government would have even considered shutting down their country to the same extent as they have.

I think with the new border controls, they are trying to make the UK into a 'bubble' like New Zealand or Australia.  I really can't see foreign travel getting back to normal any time soon, but I'm hopeful that domestically we can resume life almost as normal in the next couple of months as the vaccinations are rolled out.

I must admit, I'm struggling to see why "foreign travel" is still a thing. They've told me not to leave my house except for essential journeys. What have they told these people who are apparently swanning in and out of the country with gay abandon?  ::)

When I had my test I was told not to get out of the car, and turned up in an MX5*.
There could have been a bit of a rummage to get at the "other end" for this test. ;D

*- with a knackered battery, as it turned out. :-[

Fookin ell, Nick. :D

Sir William will be turning in his grave.

I think he wore out his bearings when they launched the S type and the diseasel, front wheel drive Mondaguar. ;D

Did you remember to plug it back in? :D
It's a self charging hybrid IF you drive it occasionally  ;)
It's got one of them alternaterobob things fitted
If you just use it in tool storage shed mode all the time ,the electricary leaks out the interior lights  :(

I'm not sure he can spare enough engine output to turn the alternator. :D

Bikes are much more interesting than football.

So is stamp collecting, train spotting... etc. ;D

It's hard not to think that something bad may be around the corner, though. And logic says the more dosh you have saved, the more resilient you are.

It's bad enough at the moment! What did you have in mind? ;)

If people are stupid enough to buy them.  ::)
After this pandemic along with all their other sins against the rest of the world, we should be boycotting them.

Nah - people will still buy whatever cr@p has the cheapest finance deal just to have something new on the driveway to keep up with the Joneses.

Whether it's a French, Italian or Chinese shitbox will not even cross their minds. ::)

Chopping their thieving hands off might work too
depends if that's frowned upon locally  :-\

There's a BIG lake there. Couple of concrete blocks and he could be vanished for a long time. ;D

Also worth checking the contacts that energise the motor if you can get to them.

I'm still dreading the day I see my index somewhere around Oxfordshire / Bucks, followed by the words "driving like it was stolen"  ::)
I don't ever recall mine being posted here.

Although I do remember a telling off from Tunnie's Mum the day after Gixer, Kevin Wood and I were "in a hurry to get to Tiffins" and apparently passed her on the dual carriageway.  But that was all Kevin Wood's fault. Its always Kevin Wood's fault. He's a wrong 'un, I tell ya.

ISTR I was the one with the knackered brake pads, so was taking it "easy".

May be possible to 'fix' the original starter ;)

Good point. Dismantle it and clean up the contacts in the solenoid and it'll probably go for long enough to get it sold, given the symptoms. ;)

There's normally a freewheel at the pinion end that allows the pinion to freewheel when the engine fires.

It's not impossible that this is faulty and "giving" in both directions. That would cause your symptoms. You might be able to verify this by hand.

Normally the solenoid has to extend to the full length of its throw before the contacts that energise the motor make.

Another thing to check is that on some Fords I've seen several sets of mounting holes for different styles of starter. Is there any room for adjustment of its position?

Anything that once lived in water.

I know what I've done to contaminate waters around the world.

Yep, and anything that drops out of a Chicken's @rse. :y
