Hi all,

Looking to put a new Bosch Battery on the old girl later (original 15 Year old GM was a bit empty yesterday  )

Reading Haynes, they say disconnect the Negative WITHIN 15 Seconds.

I assume this is correct and is all I need to worry about.

No need to reset anything (other than radio code which I have) when the new one is connected all up.

I have sprayed bolt and clamp holding battery in for last day or so as never been touched since came off production line !!!

What can go wrong !

Yep, just need to reset the windows and sunroof after.

Hold each window button down until window stops and you here the motor click, then do the reverse wand put them back up with the same process. Sunroof is same process really, turn to full open and press and hold the control until it reaches it, then the reverse.

Charging new battery now before put on 

Went for Bosch S4 100 680CCA

Identical dimensions to original GM one and 72Ah rather than GM 66Ah

Actually, the bolt snaps off a lot easier than it unscrews.

  I am pleased to report that all done with no issues 

Battery tray looked nice and clean, but I treated to a spit and polish and like a new pin 

Bolt cleaned and greased up and 'nipped' up, not too tight.

She started like dream - Starter flew around fastest I recall.  Guess she has been struggling but I have not noticed/gotten use.

Only complex thing was remembering how to enter the CD Changer Security code.  I thought I was there having done the Radio one, only to be asked for the CD Changer one to !!!

All is well and working.

I am OOF for a celebratory cuppa  .

The Astra I had, had a plastic battery tray & the embedded nut had siezed to the bolt, so I chopped the bolt & heated & pushed a stanless bolt up through the tray to end up with the same set up as the Omega

Doh, yes, of course, the Bullet had a new battery the day I ripped the sump plug out of the tractor.  I think the tractor had a "new to the car" replacement as well

If I am not mistaken, this is purely so that the the alarm powersounder doesn't go off when you disconnect the leads.

For only a few pounds you can get a memory saver device that plugs in your diagnostic socket, with two leads off it to connect to a third battery. I connect it to an old 12v house alarm battery which is very small and light to handle, and it is sufficient as it doesn't need much power. This provides enough power to retain the radio code etc whilst you change the battery. You can get cigarette lighter versions, but I prefer the diagnostic plug versions.
