Correct braking distance?
« on: 07 November 2021, 14:02:04 »

As the mighty and highly desirable Signum has been blessed with new front discs and pads, I thought I'd check out how well she stops. The brakes were pretty hopeless before the change but now she seems able to 'stop on a sixpence' :y

So.....from a genuine 60MPH she took 130.32 feet to stop in just 3.05 seconds.

But here is the confusion. The same data shows she also took 134.16 feet with AMS braking.

How is it possible to have two different figures? ??? ??? ......also WTF is AMS braking? I've used Mr Google but still don't fully understand. :-\

I think it means ABS ;)

Abs stopping on a clean dry surface is always longer because it releases the brakes to prevent locking... Ostensibly to allow you to safely steer rather than to stop you more quickly.  :y

Nope, its the Germans trying to be too clever for no particular reason again.  :)

Couldnt be arsed to read the details tbh.

Yes.....I got as far as learning it was something to do with Ze Germans. I just don't understand how there can be more than one braking distance. ??? ???

I'm sure some OOF boffin, one who spends his life clinging to the ragged edge of sanity, will know the answer. :y

Come on Nick W. :)

I did 2 stops. One being longer than the other.

Perhaps it is an average......I don't think this though. ???

6.78 seconds. :)

The Tata managed it in four and a bit. Very traction limited until 70 or 80MPH, after which she was properly quick. :)

They did break down though.
A lot. Like Prince Charles' new Aston that didn't make it as far as the motorway.
Which is why a 10 year old one any of those was worth next to nothing. Now they're still crap, but are worth a small fortune for some reason.

I imagine most were better to look at and polish rather than actually drive. Nostalgia has a strong emotional effect on us though.

I could have included the Elan sprint ( in Gold leaf colours please)......now that would have been fun to drive, albeit exceptionally fragile.

No mention of tin worm at the last MOT. :y

Most people barely notice it, and those that do don't know what it is. It's pretty quick for something form 2007.

It is, in 2.8T form, also extremely rare......much like your Mondeo Titty X. :)
