It`s used on the Payage toll-roads; the ticket booths use entry/exit/distance-covered timings and the Gendarmerie get the head`s up automatically and pull-speeders as they leave the booth.

Grand frère strikes again :y We used some kind of toll, whether it was a Payage or not I couldn't say. SWMBO told where to go!  ::) I just drove.  ;D
We did see one Gatso type thing in the central reservation though, & just as over here, everyone obediantly obeyed the limit as we passed.

.....and stick to posted speed-limits as they are average-speed monitored......

Is this a recent thing? We took the Omega to Vendee about 4 years back. We didn't drop much below 100 mph all the way, & I wasn't on my own in the outside lane (of 2) It was brilliant how, after overtaking people dropped back into the nearside lane again  :), not like over here where people see a car a mile away in the nearside so stay where they are in the outside lane.  >:(

Indeed, my first car, an Austin 1960 Farrina bodied A40, bought for £15 in 1971, had far more charisma and appeal than the Mondeo of 1993! Lizzie Zoom  ;D

Your Mundane was as good as that?

.... & you adjusted the tappets with the engine running using the rule of 9.....
    Who remembers that? :D

Rule of 9 ie 1 & 8   2 & 7 etc etc was when you did the tappets static You did the CIH with hydraulic 'tappets' when the engine was running. Great method of covering everything in oil!  ;) I used an old rocker cover on my Manta & 2.2 Carlton with a hole cut in the top so I could get to the adjusters.
