General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?

Acquired 2 freebie logo puddle lights, so fitted them. ………

So you have pretty little Jaguar logo lights illuminating the kerb when you exit the car now then.  :y
Finally, I took a photo, just for you!

Looks a decent, clear projection.  :y  I looked up the price of my factory fit lights and the price is err….. scary.  :o
The usual ones I buy are about a fiver a pair, but tend to burn through the mask after a couple of years.  These ones were freebies from that nice Mr Bezos, so no idea on price, be interesting to see if they last better.

Genuine GM, but been on the shelf for a few years.  PN: 90487103

Have had my 3rd temp filling in the same tooth in one day, dentists are added to the list of people who have pissed me off today.  That's the 5th or 6th temp filling in that tooth since October when the 40+ year old one fell out.

For performance, the 3.0l is much better than the 3.2.  The 3.2 (and its sister, the god awful 2.6) are poor substitutes for the 3.0 and 2.5.

If you're prepared to do a lot of work, the 3.2 might have potential, either with forced induction or doing something about the stupidly low CR

Omega General Help / Re: Guess what? - An Oil question!
« on: 02 February 2024, 18:29:17 »
yes i have noticed that the omega does tend to produce mayo but luckily due to the design it collects up in the (removeable) filler neck so easy to clean out now and again. not helped with mine with short journeys but it has had gm oil in for the last 3 changes.  be nice to know if other oils are better / worse in this matter .ive heard that castrol is bad ?.
mannol will be my next choice especialky at around £45 for 20l
The mayo also tends to form in the breather system as well.  Hence needing to keep away from oils that are susceptible

I would imagine it will just be the vac lines on the control knobs, so only need to remove the centre console, which is straightforward.

And when you put it back together, don't ram it in when clearly it isn't wanting to sit right ;)

Well... a quick rummage in the book of lies suggests that it is indeed a vacuum control system  :o
Phew, I'm not going bonkers....

Ok, so mid facelift. If knobs then check the cables move freely. And actually move the various flaps.

I don't see how applying throttle would affect a noise in the cabin though.
Its vac operated, not cable operated.  Unless my memory is worse than I thought!

By not changing modes, does the display on the heating panels change with your button presses, but the air still comes out the windscreen vent, or does the display on the heating panel not change with button presses?

I do t have a display just 4 knobs and seat heaters, rear defrost, hazards, heat circulation and ac
Ah, so its a pre facelift model.

Could well be the vacuum pipe has come off the back of the air distribution dial, or other vac related problems.

General Discussion Area / Re: Vauxhall radio codes
« on: 01 February 2024, 15:22:19 »
@TB would a boot disc changer have a code? Likewise a Vectra unit?
CDC2 (6 disc changer used on PFL/MFL Omegas) has a traditional code.
CDC3 (4 disc changers used on later Vauxhalls), which can be a standalone unit or integrated into double din units, has multiple modes. In NCDC/NCDR mode, it has a pairing code that cannot be entered by the car owner.  In other modes, it can't talk to NCDR/NCDCs.

That answer your question?

I use whatever is cheapest in my two that meet the spec.  Which tends to be Mannol in one and Fanfaro (who?) in the other.

The Omega isn't that fussy, aside from oils that absorb lots of moisture.  So, VXL V6, let us know if it has a tendeancy to leave mayo on the cap when you try it :y
