I bought a KDC-309A off Fleabay and tried to fit it yesterday. It powers up, tunes into radio stations and goes through the motions of playing CD's, but there's no noise.

I tried it with a known working Kenwood radio/cassette player and that does the same thing so the problem must be with the cars wiring.

Anyone come across this before or have any ideas why this is happening?

TIA.

If the screen is the GID like this:-

Yup, that's the one!!

then no one does an adaptor that works the screen.

Dammit!!

But will the steering wheel controls work ok though?

As it sounds like the Bose system i'd have a punt that you need to wire the remote amp lead from the head unit into the lead for the Bose amp fitted in the boot so it 'turns on' before you get any sound

So does that mean I need to channel the pre-outs into the input for the amp, or will it work from the amplified output?

TIA.

Been reading this with interest as I spent most of yesterday tryig to swap out the stereo in SWMBO's Elite.

Now, the car currently has a Siemens unit fitted, (has phone, CD changer control and an on board tape deck. It also has 'Bose' printed on the tape door if that's any help for ID.)

The reason I want to change it out is that it doesn't seem to work the CD changer as it reports it as 'not present' and the radio frequencies have to be reset every time the car's switched on.

I bought a Kenwood KDC-309 and an Autoleads PC9-706 from Fleabay and figured it would just be a straight plug in. Very wrong was.

First of all, the Autolead sports a two pin wide array of contacts and the car has three pin wide so that obviously just wouldn't fit, so I thuoght I'll forget that and just fit the stereo so that at least she can play CD's. So I plugged the unit in using the standard ISO connectors and it won't play. It powers up fine and tunes into radio stations and even goes through the motions of playing CD's, but there's no sound!! I reckon the unit's ok, 'cos I tried it with a known working Kenwood radio/cassette and that did the same.

So basically, initially I'm looking for tips on getting sound out of the damned thing and advice on the Autolead fiasco.

I don't know about the actual item you're talking about, but there're various FM modulators for sale on eBay.

I bought one a wee while ago, USB, Memory stick and audio in. Works a treat and doesn't need any splicing.

Yes, you will be able to steer the car by turning the wheel either clockwise or anticlockwise depending on which way you want to steer!!  ;D

There's no such thing as a stupid question. I thought I'd put them in correctly, but I might be wrong. I'll try again.

Didn't notice the MID doing the check, but again, I'll try again.

Lens cleaner's probably a good idea as a matter of course. The rest of the car's a bit 'doggy', so the CDC might've suffered too.

Thanks guys!!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CD changer question.
« on: 27 July 2006, 21:36:02 »
SWMBO's Elite has a 6 disk Blaupunkt changer in the boot.

When I bought it, there was no cartridge with it, so someone I know through the Autobahnstormers kindly provided one for me.

So I went out tonight to install it with some CD's.

It took the cartridge alright and loaded and ejected all the CD's as part of it's self test, (I assume), and it would eject the cartridge when I pressed the button, so I know there's power and some sort of intelligence there, but when I press the CD button on the boogie box, it says "No CDC".

Any ideas?

TIA!

Best thing if cars not used much is to lock but not deadlock it...just for this very reason  :y

I would've, but I was confident the battery was a strong one It'll be getting left slightly less secure now that's for sure, but at least it'll be out of sight!

Thatnks for the replys guys!

The driver's door lock, (obviously not one in the passenger's door), and the boot lock were seized solid.

Managed, with the assistance of some WD40, to get the driver's lock moving, (boot lock completely siezed to the point I couldn't get the key in).

The thing that foxed me though was the fact that the door pin didn't lift! I think I'd managed to get it unlocked fairly quickly, but didn't think I had 'cos the pin was still down!  ::)

Anyway, all sorted now.

Sod's law though isn't it?!?!?! I had/have lots to do this afternoon and the very first thing I had to do was move the Omega. I couldn't do anything else until I'd managed to shift it!! I was absolutely raging for a wee while there!!  >:(

But now I'm like.....  :)

He will need the immobilser ECU from around the ignition switch and the transponder from in the key.

That's exactly what he wanted to know, thanks Mark! Speedy answer BTW!!  :y

Got a mate who's looking to pull the drivetrain from a 2.0 Omega to use in a 'hot rod' project.

He's wondering if there's anything he'll need other than the engine ECU with regards to security like induction loops etc.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

So other than eBay, where's recommended to get a crank sensor from then?

Bob Dent's car has, (or at least used to have), 275s on 17" rims at the back!

I don't think I'd be inclined to put them on the front mind.
