Omega General Help / On to the next problem...
« on: 03 October 2015, 18:31:01 »
So changed the MAF sensor today as I was not getting any info on the live diagnostics. Recently serviced the car and cleaned the breather system with carb cleaner (including the carb itself). I now have the problem of the car miss firing in cylinder 3... Some of the coil pack boots are worn and number 3 was significantly worn but I swapped the boots around and it's still number 3 miss firing. I haven't checked the plugs but they were changed a matter of 3 weeks ago, I have also thrown some injector cleaner down its neck a few weeks back. The fault codes have been frequent but only once did I get a fault code about the coil pack. This was before I changed the boots around, yet cylinder 3 is still miss firing. The miss fire is infrequent. Could it be the coil pack? Or would that provide a consistent misfire?

Omega General Help / Cooling fan
« on: 01 October 2015, 20:14:50 »
So my main cooling fan wasn't kicking in and after investigation I learned that the fuse powering it was #4. However when I checked the fuse panel, number #4 wasn't there... So I grabbed a spare 15A fuse, went to pop it in and it didn't go in. So I took the fuse panel out and there are no cables going up to that fuse! Nothing there at all! Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Oil leak
« on: 22 September 2015, 09:14:10 »
Hello all! My 2.2 petrol omega has a slight oil leak. I'm not entirely sure where the leak is coming from but its dripping onto the back of the exhaust manifold and burning off causing smoke to appear from the bonnet. It occurs when the car is idling a few minutes after start up. There is no blue smoke coming out of the exhaust and when I went to change the spark plugs the other day, there was about a 8-10mm deep pool of oil in each spark plug well. There wasn't any oil in the actual cylinder just above the spark plug itself. I've replaced the oil with slightly thicker oil and added some Redex seal rejuvenation fluid as well as soaking up all of the oil in the spark plug wells and changing the plugs themselves. Some of the rubber covers that go over the spark plugs have broken slightly but not massively. Since the service the oil is still burning and if anything it's slightly worse. Any ideas? Could it be the rocker gasket cover? Thanks.

Omega General Help / Immobiliser problem
« on: 14 May 2015, 19:27:35 »
Hey, my car is no longer recognising my key so the immobiliser won't deactivate. The starter motor still cranks the engine over and the central locking still works but she's not firing. Any ideas?

Omega General Help / 2.2 project
« on: 26 February 2015, 08:05:11 »
Hey everyone, I'm planning on doing a lot of work on my 2.2 petrol omega in the bottom half of this year and the first half of next year (planning on putting her on stands in September time) and I was just planning with parts and layouts etc... My first question is turbo related. I have sourced a universal turbo and intercooler kit to go into the car and I have also been speaking to the company behind the 'cherry bomb' custom exhaust and they said they would be happy to manufacture me a customised stainless steel turbo exhaust manifold with all the necessary pipes and the tail end itself to more or less bolt onto my head. All I will have to do is fabricate the mounts for the exhaust as well as the turbo. The turbo kit comes will all the necessary pipe work to fabricate the system myself. So two things, I understand that an updated clutch will be in order and I have sourced one however I was wondering as to how much the transmission itself would cope with and at what pressure I would be limited to with my current head bolts? And if possible what replacement head bolts could I use to keep everything a bit tighter? Thank you in advance

Omega General Help / Ticking exhaust manifold
« on: 28 January 2015, 10:48:24 »
Hello, I have a small annoyance on my omega. There is a slight ticking noise when the car is started cold. It goes away after a minute or so. After investigation I noticed that a few of the bolts going into the engine head from the exhaust manifold had snapped inside the head which means the manifold is slightly loose on the left side. It's not noticably loose and I think it goes away due to the metal expanding as it heats up and sealing the gap. I have managed to get some gasket sealant in the gap which seems to have calmed the ticking down a bit but it is is still present. I was wandering if there is anything I can do it withing replacing the head? And will it cause any long term damage/power losses if left as it is? Thank you

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello all
« on: 28 January 2015, 10:25:25 »
Hello, I have joined the forum recently due to a recent purchase of a omega which I have grown to love. I have a 2001 2.2 GLS saloon petrol. I have done a bit of work to it but I hope to do a lot more work to it over the year so any advice for any questions I have would be greatly appreciated. It's currently a bit of a rolling project but I am hoping to get it up on stands around August time, but the specifics of what needs done I shall post in the general help section.

I look forward to hearing from you all and I hope at some point I will be able to help you as much as you can help me.
